     Irene Lyons was born about 1901.2 She married Edward Sill Greathead, son of Robert G Greathead and Maud M Hufferdine, on 27 October 1919 in Oakland, California, USA.1,3 The San Francisco Call of 17 May 1922 wrote: GIRL ARRESTED AS DESERTER OE HER BABE IN OAKLAND - The mother of "Little Alice,” abandoned on Mothers’ Day was taken into custody by the Almeda police today. She is Mrs. Irene Greathead. 21 years old. attractive and well dressed. She has been living at 916 Seventh Street. Oakland. Her husband. Edward Greathead. is a fugitive from justice, a warrant having been issued April 24 for his arrest on a charge of failure, to provide for his wife and child. Mrs. Greathead. the police learned, has placed another baby, 4 months old —Alice is 2—with a Berkeley family for legal adoption. EXPRESSES NO REGRET The young mother expressed no i»gret for abandoning her pretty babies. Taken to the Children's Home at 3491 Sixty-sixth aventfe. today, Mrs. Greathead did not ask to see her little girl who is being cared for there. During her enforced visit, according to Mrs. Jessie Jordan, superintendent of the home. Mrs. Greathead d4d not shed a tear, her voice didn't waver and she didn't see “Little Alice.” Mrs. Jordan received a "tip” by telephone from a persorj who Is not named, revealing the identity of the mother of "Little Alice.” The informant had recognized the child's photograph published in The Call. MOTHER JAILED Police Inspector William Kyle arrested Mrs. Greathead. who was locked up to await trial on a charge of child abandonment. Though she pleaded poverty. Mrs. Greathead was stylishly attired. She said she was unable to work, that she had been refused aid by an Oakland charitable institution, and that when her husband abandoned her she gave her 4-months-old baby to Mr. and Mrs. O. Tagland, 1635 Lincoln avenue, Oakland. Today the young mother signed papers surrendering the custody of her two babies to tlie State Children's Home.2 Irene filed for divorce in the Superior Court on 21 September 1923 from her husband stating he deserted her on 22 April 1922 and their two small children. She asked for such relief as the court saw fit to grant.4,2

     Thomas Brockett was born about 1828 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.1 He was the son of John Brockett and Susannah Shadforth. He was baptised on 25 January 1829 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.2 He married Isabella Dawson in 1853 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.3 Thomas was listed on the census of 7 April 1861 as the Master of the ship Eglatine, there were six others listed on board including Robert Brocket aged 28 and listed as cook and seaman. Thomas' wife and young son were at home in West Hartlepool.4

     Isabella Dawson was born about 1830 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.2 She married Thomas Brockett, son of John Brockett and Susannah Shadforth, in 1853 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.3 Isabella was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 15 Anson Street, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, Isabella was listed as a Seaman's wife living with her son. Thomas her husband was at sea and the Master on board the ship Eglantine.4
