Herbert Proven was born on 21 February 1903 in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England.1 He was the son of Henry Herbert Proven and Mary Elizabeth Greathead. He was baptised on 26 March 1903 in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, is parents were Henry Herbertand Mary Elizabeth Proven.2 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 20 Brunt Street, Rusholme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Herbert Proven.3 I was sent a fantastic picture of the Proven family dated 1915-16.4
He married Jessie Alexander in 1929 in West Derby, Lancashire, England.5 Herbert sailed on 7 October 1955 from Manchester on board the ship Manchester Mariner bound for Montreal. He was listed as a Representative and gave his UK address as Ivy Cottage, Hatherton, Nantwich in Cheshire. His wife and daughter Diana followed later that month.6 Herbert died on 14 December 1971 in North Vancouver, british Columbia, Canada, aged 68.7

William was a maintenance electrician.5 William died in 1958 in Conway, Caernarvonshire, Wales.6

Ivy Mary Greathead was born on 8 February 1907 in Aston, Warwickshire, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Daniel Saunders Greathead and Alice Williams. She was baptised on 24 February 1907 in St Stephen, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, the family lived in 102 Berner's Street and her father was a jeweller.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Daniel Saunders Greathead.4 There is a lovely picture of Alice and Daniel and three children. Arthur, Ivy and baby Walter, sadly baby Daniel had died in infancy. Presumably taken around 1912.5
She married Albert Samuel Nickless on 29 June 1929 in St Peter and St Paul, Aston, Warwickshire, England, after the banns had been read on 19 and 26 May and 2 June. The ceremony was witnessed by Wallace W Sillets and Frances Alice Mather. Albert was a motor mechanic.6,7 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Ivy was listed as living at 42 Rymond Road, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, with her husband Albert. Albert was a motor mechanic living with his wife and mother Annie.8 Alice and three of her children, Doris, Arthur and Ivy, were together for this photograph taken in December 1963.5
Her husband Albert died on 1982 in Weston Super Mare, Somerset, England.9 Ivy died in September 1985 in Sedgemoor, Somerset, England, aged 78.10

Marshall.1 Elizabeth was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 2 Court 1 House, Anson Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, Elizabeth had her so and daughter in law staying with her. There is also listed an Eliza Marshall aged 9 and a scholar in the family, she is listed as a grandaughter, but I do not think it is Charles and Annie's daughter.2 Elizabeth was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 8 Anson Street, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, Elizabeth's son Charles and daughter in law are still living with her. Mary Ann Greathead was born on 29 January 1903 in 5 Coronation Terrace, Ox Hill, Durham, England, her father was a coal miner.1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Greathead and Mary Jane Gibson. In the census of 2 April 1911 in 39 Maple Street, South Moor, Stanley, Durham, England, she was listed as the daughter of Thomas Greathead Mary was at school.3 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 39 Maple Street, Stanley, Durham, England, she was listed as the daughter of Thomas Greathead.4 She married Patrick Joseph Riley on 20 December 1930 in Register Office, Lanchester, Durham, England, after a certificate was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by John C Orr and Ethel Lightfoot. Patrick was a widower and colliery storeman, he was living in a Caravan, New Acres in Stanley. His father Thomas Riley had been a general labourer but was deceased. Mary lived at 8 Elm Street in Stanley. Her father Thomas Greathead was a shot firer coal miner.5,2 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Mary was listed as living at 14 Noble Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England, Mary and her son Thomas were living with Ernest Metcalfe a single gentleman born 23 May 1902 and working as a general labourer in the steel works. It would appear that maybe Mary and Patrick had split up as Patrick appears to be living on his own at 17 Mann Street in Bootle.6,7 Her husband Patrick died on 12 February 1944 in Stockton and Thornaby Hospital, Stockton on Tees, Durham, England, as a result of primary shock following a fracture of the femur and dislocation of the shoulder due to being knocked down by a motor omnibus. An inquest was held on 15 February 1944 and the Coroner for Stockton declared the incident and accident. He was a labourer and the address given was 24 The Square.8,2 Mary died on 14 December 1945 in 18 Noble Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England, aged 42 from cardiac failure, and acute asthma. The owner of the house where she died was E Metclfe and he registered her death. She was lsted as the wife of Patrick Riley, interestingly he had died 12 February 1944.9,10,2 Mary was buried in Elswick Cemetery, Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham, England.9
