Thomas Moir was born in July 1840 in England. He married Sarah Hawley, daughter of William Hawley and Elizabeth Grindler, in 1867 in Sunderland, Durham, England.1 Thomas emigrated to America in 1880. His wife and family followed in 183.2 Thomas was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 1 June 1900 in West Earie Street, Hall Bureau, Spring Valley, Illinois, USA, Thomas was described as a contractor and builder.3
