Cassandra Kemsley was born on 5 September 1893 in Chapman's Cottages, Lower Halstow, Sittingbourne, Kent, England.1,2 She was the daughter of George Kemsley and Louisa Matilda Cook.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Parsonage Farm, Parsonage Lane, Bobbing, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of George Kemsley.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Little Norwood, Parsonage Lane, Bobbing, Kent, England, she was listed as the daughter of George Kemsley.4 She married George Daniel Cole, son of Ernest Joseph Cole, on 28 February 1920 in All Saints, Iwade, Sittingbourne, Kent, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Eliza Isabel Haigh and Stanley Edward Cook. Both George and Cassandra gave their address as Orhard Farm, Iwade. George was described as an engineer.1,5 In 1921, George left the UK and went to Canada. He left Cassandra pregnant with their daughter Ivy. Family tradition has it that he sent for the family after finding a home and a job. Nothing was then heard of George for some considerable time. It is believed that Cassandra traced him via the Salvation Army and the fare was raised for him to return. George "had not been home all that long" according to oral tradition, when he died of Tetanus. He had been working on the sea defences on the Isle of Sheppey.1 Her husband George died on 15 March 1938 in St Bartholomew Hospital, Rochester, Kent, England, His usual address was 2 Edwin Place, Newington, Kent and he had worked as a general labourer.1,6 Cassandra lived in 2 Edwins Place, Newington, Sittingbourne, Kent for many years until moving to a retirement bungalow in Prince Charles Avenue, Sittingbourne, where she was looked after by Gillian Rains, her granddaughter. She died in May 1997 in Sittingbourne, Kent, England, She was 103 years, 7 months, 29 days when she died.1,7 Cassandra was buried in Newington cemetery, Sittingbourne, Kent, England.1
