George was a blacksmith. Basil's siblings were Ethel aged 17, a parlourmaid, Ivy aged 15 a housemaid (she was not staying wth the family on census night) at Robert age 11, Debbie aged 9, Gordon aged 7, James aged 5 and Ronald aged 3. Basil, Robert and Dennis were at school.⁴ He married Dorothy May Radley on 15 February 1922 in Register Office, Guildford, Surrey, England, Basil was a motor mechanic living at Oakleigh, Woodside Road, Chiddingfold.
