Charles Brockett1

     Charles Brockett was born in 1853 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Brockett and Isabella Dawson. He was baptised on 16 November 1853 in Whitby, Yorkshire, England, his parents were listed as Thomas and Isabel.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 15 Anson Street, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Isabella Brockett.4 He married Margaret Irene Eliza Wright, daughter of ... Wright, in 1883 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.1,5 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 35 Milton Road, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, Charles was a Marine Superintendent Engineer living with his wife, children and sisiter in law.6 Charles died on 20 February 1907 by drowning off the Hook of Holland in the wreck of the SS Berlin. He was one of 128 lives lost that night, 48 crew members and 80 passengers. The ship was hit by a large wave during a heavy storm and the ship broke in two.1,7,8 Charles was buried in North Road Cemetery, Hartlepool, Durham, England.7

His home address was Victoria Road, Richmond.5 Henry did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 27 May 1919 in London to his father George James Benson a grocer. His effects were valued at £117 9s 0d.5

     Margaret Marston was born in 1868 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Edward Marston and Alexandrina Garrow.1 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 4 Lombard Street, West Derby, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the daughter living with her sisters and aunt as housekeeper. The girls were all described as scholars. Their mother had just died and their father was a commercial traveller working away.3 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 120 Park Road, Elswick, Northumberland, England, she was listed as the daughter of Edward Marston.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Hughenden Villa, Longbenton, Northumberland, England, she was listed as the daughter of Edward Marston Margaret was a nurse.5

She was described as housekeeper. Her brother was a commercial traveller and was working away from home.2
