Hugh was a Corporation carter. Donald was described as a marine fireman.5

Eliza signed her name with her mark.1,2,3 She was the daughter of Donald William Stewart and Eliza Smith.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 15/2 Grafton Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Eliza Stewart Grace was a scholar.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 65 Solway Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the sister in law of John Walker Stubbs Grace was a cigarette packer.5 It is understood that Grace was a tall red headed nursing sister. Her son was in the Bamford police.3

His sister in law Grace was living with them.4 John was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 70 Boswell Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, John was a bookbinder living with his wife, children a grandchild Phyllis Thora Stubbs aged 18 months, assume the son of Charles whose young wife Florence had died in 1910 and one servant in their seven roomed home. John and Bessie had another child who had died before 1911.5 His wife Elizabeth died on 1944 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, she was registered as Bessie Stubbs.6 John died in 1947 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.7

     John Stubbs was born on 17 February 1889 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,2,3 He was the son of John Walker Stubbs and Elizabeth Stewart.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 65 Solway Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of John Walker Stubbs.4 John signed up for the Navy on 16 February 1905, he gave his address as 37 Cain Street, Toxteth and his occupation as a plumbers assistant. He was due to start service on 17 March 1905 and signed up for 12 years. His ervice records states his height on entry as a boy was five foot three and a quarter inches but rose to five foot seven as a man. His hair was dark brown and he had a fresh complexion when he joined and not unsurprisingly a dark complexion as a man, after years at sea you would expect that. He had a tatooed dot on the back of his left hand. His charector and ability were described mostly as very good. He served on many ships including the Emerald, Hood, Repulse to name a few.5 John came out of the Navy on 12 JUly 1913 and entered the Police force.6 He married Una Ethel Pyart in 1919 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, England.7 Sergeant John and his wife Una sailed on board the Ormonde, a steam ship with the Orient Line which sailed from London on 15 November 1919 bound for Melbourne, Australia.8,6

     Cyril Walker Stubbs was born on 18 March 1898 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1,2,3 He was the son of John Walker Stubbs and Elizabeth Stewart.1 He was baptised on 25 May 1898 in St Dunstan, Edge Hill, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, the family lived at 45 Wendell Street and his father was a book binder.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 65 Solway Street, Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of John Walker Stubbs.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 70 Boswell Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, he was listed as the son of John Walker Stubbs Cyril was at school.6 He married Annie Hurst on 26 December 1920 in St Bridget, Wavertree, Lancashire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by AH Jones and Doris Hurst. Cyril was a Police Constable and Annie a shop assistant. They both gave their address as 78 Egerton Road. Annie's father William was a carter.7 Cyril died in 1977 in Crosby, Lancashire, England.8

Caroline died on 9 January 1874 in Liverpool, Lancashire, England.3,1 Caroline was buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Smithdown Road, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, in a private grave I understand near the entrance by the fence.1

David Ogilvie Stewart1

     David Ogilvie Stewart was born on 11 April 1794 in Warden, Angus, Scotland.1 He married Elizabeth Mugridge Elizabeth was Donald's first wife is buried in Dover, Kent, England. She died while he was stationed there.1 His wife Elizabeth died on an unknown date in Dover, Kent, England, it is thought she was in her 30s.1 He married Mary Anne Sandieman.2,1 David was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 June 1841 in High Street, Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, David was living with the Mill family. David was listed as a pensioner and his family seemed to consist of Mary his wife and five children David O, Elizabeth, Samuel, James and John.3 David is described as a shipwright on his son Donald's marriage certificate to Elizabeth Rogers. Interestingly the certificate does not record him as deceased.4 David died on 8 February 1845 aged 50 of inflammation. This is a descriptive term used to describe a redness, swelling, pain or tenderness of a body organ such as brain or lung.1

     Charles Stewart was born on 24 September 1824 in Gibraltar.1 He was the son of David Ogilvie Stewart and Elizabeth Mugridge. In the census of 30 March 1851 at North Newgate, Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, he was listed as lodging with Robert and Elizabeth Mill and their son Stewart Mill. Robert was a railway gate keeper. Charles was described as a sailor.2 He married Helen Falconer.1 Charles died on 3 March 1858 in 33 Back Bridport Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, aged 33 from liver disease. His brother Donald registered his death. Charles was described as a Master Mariner.1,3 Charles was buried on 9 March 1858 in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Liverpool, Lancashire, England.1

     Helen Falconer was born about 1828 in Arbroath, Angus, Scotland.2 She married Charles Stewart, son of David Ogilvie Stewart and Elizabeth Mugridge.1 Her husband Charles died on 3 March 1858 in 33 Back Bridport Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, aged 33 from liver disease. His brother Donald registered his death. Charles was described as a Master Mariner.1,3 Helen was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in 9 East Union Street, Arbroath, Angus, Scotland, She is describe as a mill worker in the Spinner house. Her sister Mary Ann Falconer aged 36 and a staymaker is staying with her and her children. Jane Ferrier aged 26 a mill worker reeler flax from Montrose was boarding with the family.4

     Mary Josephine Stewart was born on 4 March 1895 in Toxteth Park, Lancashire, England.1,2 She was the daughter of David Ogilvie Smith and Mary Ellen McGee.1 Mary lived in 1944 in Bremhill Road, Liverpool.1 Her mother Mary died on 22 September 1944.1,3 Mary died on 9 March 1977 aged 82.1

     Mary Ellen McGee was born about 1868.2 She married David Ogilvie Smith, son of Donald William Stewart and Eliza Smith, on 4 December 1893 in All Saint's Church, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Mary was of the Roman Catholic faith.1,3 Her husband David died on 18 August 1935 aged 60 David was the oldest seaman on the Cunard lines at the time and was killed instantly at sea when the ship he was on the Laurentic and The Napier Star were in collision. His residence at the time was listed a Beaverbrook Road, Liverpool.1,4 Mary died on 22 September 1944 in 20 Bremhill Road, Liverpool, Lancashire, England, her daughter Mary's house.1,5
