Horatio Sillifant was born about 1834 in Langford, Somerset, England.1,2 He was the son of Timothy Sillifant and Margaret ...1 He married Betsey Hamer Jackson on 1 June 1853 in Islington, London, England.3 Horatio was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 1 Thornhill Square, Islington, London, England, Horatio was a surgeon. He was living with his wife Betsey and their children Horatio Edward age 7 a scholar, Frederick age 5 and a scholar, Margaret age 3, Agnes age 2 and Alfred aged 10 months.4 His wife Betsey died on 29 April 1863 in Islington, London, England.3,5 He married Elizabeth Amer in 1866 in Islington, London, England.6 Horatio was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 1 Thornhill Square, Islington, London, England, Horatio was listed as a physician MD living with his wife and children from his first marriage. Horatio Edward age 17 a merchants clerk, Frederick age 15 and a scholar, Margaret age 13, Agnes age 12 and Alfred aged 10. Also children from his second marriage Hann A aged 3, Arthur H aged 2and Sidney R aged 1. The household also consisted of a cook and housemaid.7 Horatio was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 79 Richmond Road, Islington, London, England, Horation is still listed as a Physician and is living with his wife and their children Arthur HA aged 12, Sydney A aged 11, William A age 7 all scholars and the younger children Daisy A aged 2 Violet A aged 1 and Frances HA only three months old. The household also consisted of a cook and nurse.8 Horatio died in 1911 in Islington, London, England.9

Emily Gertrude Sillifant was born in 1861 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.1,2 She was the daughter of Samuel Sillifant and Catherine de Boudry Scott.1 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 17 Windsor Road, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, she was listed as the daughter of Samuel Sillifant Emily was a scholar.3 Emily was in 1881, living at Riseley Mill, Heckfield, Hampshire with the Rose family. She was a private governess for their seven children aged one to nine.4 Gertrude Lilifant aged 22 emigrated to Australia on the "Roma" to Cooktown on 17 November 1882.4 She married George Skyring on 25 December 1886 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, George was listed as a widower. He and Emily had three known children. Sadly one was born stillborn on 2 August 1897.4 Emily died on 2 August 1897 in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia.4

Montague De Boudry Sillifant was born in 1863 in Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales.1,2 He was the son of Samuel Sillifant and Catherine de Boudry Scott.1 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 17 Windsor Road, Cardiff, Glamorganshire, Wales, he was listed as the son of Samuel Sillifant Montague was a scholar.3 Montague migrated to Canada in 1884.4 He married Annie Dixon in 1895 in Quebec, Canada, They had a daughter in 1896.4 He was on the nominal roll of the Canadian Scouts, indicating that he took part in the Boer War. He was a Quartermaster in the R.C.F.A, and arrived in the UK in June 1896 on his way to South Africa.4 In 1904, Mr M. de B. Sillifant applied for work at the Strydfontein Irrigation Works in the Orange Free State. In 1905 he was appointed a Government Caretaker there, for a salary of £5 per month plus a horse allowance of £2-10-0. In 1905-1907, he was in the Transvaal.5 Montague returned to Montreal in 1907.4
