     Charles Ede was born on 5 August 1823 in London, England.1 He was the son of Joseph Ede and Lydia Becheley. He was baptised on 31 August 1823 in St Benet Gracechurch, Fenchurch Street, London, England, his parents were listed as Joseph and Lydia and they lived in 45 Gracechurch Road. His father Joseph was listed as a Gentleman.2,3 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Brunswick Terrace, Islington, London, England, he was listed as the son of Joseph Ede Charles was a surgeon's apprentice.4 Charles joined the navy in 1845. Dr Ede was surgeon and naturalist on board Assistance, one of the squadron sent out in search of Sir John Franklin Ommanney and Lieutenants McClintock, Meecham, and Hamilton proceeded as far as Cape Walker. Upon his return he was awarded the Arctic medal.5,6,7 He married Emma Ede, daughter of Francis Ede and Fanny Becheley, in 1852 in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, England.1,8 Charles and his family moved into Lostiford House in 1855 moving out in 1867.9 Charles was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 7 April 1861 in Lostiford House, Cranleigh Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Charles was a General Practitioner. The house was later called Lostiford.10 He proved the will of Joseph Ede on 11 January 1864.11 He proved the will of Lydia Ede on 13 June 1865.11 Charles was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, Charles was a General Practioner living with his wife and children.12 Charles was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in Wonersh Lodge, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Charles was a General Practitioner living with his wife and children.13 Charles was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England, Charles was a General Practitioner living with his wife, daughter Constance, sister Ellen and nephew Oscar George Noyes who was the son of Henry and Louisa Noyes. The census return states Charles and Emma has 12 children, five of which had died by 1911.18 He died on 25 August 1912 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England, aged 89.19,11 Charles was buried on 28 August 1912 in Bramley Cemetery, Bramley, Guildford, Surrey, England.16,20 The will of Charles was proved on 26 October 1912 in London to Gerald Augustus Ede a gentleman and the Rev Walter Mayo Ede. His effects were valued at £3,801 17s 3d.11 I took a picture of the Ede family grave in the churchyard of the Surrey village of Bramley on 4 February 2006. Charles, his wife Emma and their children Audley, Francis, Constance, Donald and Arthur and his sister Ellen are all buried there.16

     Audley Clements Ede was born in 1853 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede.1 He was baptised on 19 October 1854 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Lostiford House, Cranleigh Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede Audley was a scholar.4 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Wonersh Lodge, Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede Audley was a student.6 It was reported in the Surrey Advertiser of 24 September 1887 that Audley was the secretary of the Wonersh Victoria Cricket Club.7 Audley died on 28 July 1899 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England.8,9 Audley was buried on 31 July 1899 in Bramley Cemetery, Bramley, Guildford, Surrey, England.10,11 The will of Audley was proved on 21 July 1910 and Administration papers issued in London to Charles Ede on 21 July 1910. His effects were valued at £755 12s 6d. Administration was again granted this time to Gerald Augustus Ede a gentleman on 26 November 1912 and his effects were now deemded to be £453 7s 10d.9 I took a picture of the Ede family grave in the churchyard of the Surrey village of Bramley on 4 February 2006. Charles, his wife Emma and their children Audley, Francis, Constance, Donald and Arthur and his sister Ellen are all buried there.10

     Donald Beauchamp Ede was born in 1863 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.2,3 He was the son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede.1 He was baptised on 3 December 1863 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede.5 Donald died on 10 November 1900 in Silchar, Cachar, Assam, India.1,6 Donald was buried on 11 November 1900 in Silchar, Bengal, India.2,7 The will of Donald was proved on 21 July 1910 in London and Administration papers issued to Charles Ede. His effects were valued at £707 0s 7d. This was later granted again to Gerald Augustus Ede a gentleman on 26 November 1912 with effects then at £453 7s 10d.6 I took a picture of the Ede family grave in the churchyard of the Surrey village of Bramley on 4 February 2006.      Gerald Augustus Ede was born in 1867 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1,2 He was the son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede.1 He was baptised on 27 July 1867 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 108 High Street, Guildford, Surrey, England, he was listed as a pupil of the private school for boys ages 7-13.5 He married Ethel May Richardson, daughter of Campbell Taylor Richardson and Ellen Atkinson, on 15 July 1905 in St Marks, Notting Hill, London, England, after a licence had been taken out. The ceremony was witnessed by Emma Ede and J Ernest Bullock. Gerald was an artist. Ethel's father was Taylor Campbell Richardson late Captain in the Indian Army.6,7 The will of Emma was proved by Gerald Augustus Ede her son on 24 November 1909.8 Gerald was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in Ferndale, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England, Gerald was a man of private means living with his wife, one boarder and two servants, a cook Kate Shepherd and a housemaid Lilian Gertrude Baker in their seven roomed home.9 He proved the will of Charles Ede on 26 October 1912.8 He proved the will of Ellen Ede on 22 June 1932.8 Gerald died on 15 February 1933 in Ferndale, Wonersh Common, Wonersh, Surrey, England.10,8 The will of Gerald was proved on 17 March 1933 in London to his widow Ethel May. His estate was valued at £2482.8s 9d.8

Walter was listed as a Church of England clergyman.7 He married Elsie Dora Gate on 5 July 1904 in Parish Church, St Pancras, London, England, after a licence was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Alfred Joseph Gate and Ambrose Leopold Ede. Walter was a Clerk in Holy Orders and gave his address as North Gate Mansions, North Gate, Gloucester. Elsie gave her address as 20 Mickleburgh Square.8 Walter was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in The Vicarage, Dunstan, Lincolnshire, England, Walter was clergyman in the Established Church living with his wife and daughter in their 14 roomed home. They had one servant.9 He proved the will of Charles Ede on 26 October 1912.10 Walter died on 6 March 1958 in Restholme, Kings Road, Cranleigh, Surrey, England, aged 89.10,11 The will of Walter was proved on 14 August 1958 in London to his widow. His estate was valued at £8033 16s 3d.10

     Arthur Gordon Ede was born on 29 January 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.2 He was the son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede.1 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede.3 He was baptised on 8 April 1871 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Wonersh Lodge, Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede Arthur was a scholar.5 Arthur died on 17 July 1898 in Guildford, Surrey, England, aged 27.6 Arthur was buried in 1898 in Bramley Cemetery, Bramley, Guildford, Surrey, England.7 I took a picture of the Ede family grave in the churchyard of the Surrey village of Bramley on 4 February 2006. Charles, his wife Emma and their children Audley, Francis, Constance, Donald and Arthur and his sister Ellen are all buried there.7

     Ellen Ede was born in 1836 in Tulse Hill, Lambeth, London, England.2 She was the daughter of Francis Ede and Fanny Becheley. She was baptised on 3 August 1836 in St Matthew, Lambeth, London, England, her father was a Merchant and the family lived in Tulse Hill.3 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Upper Tooting, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of Francis Ede.4 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Pishobury, Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Fanny Ede.5 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Lostiford House, Cranleigh Road, Wonersh, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister of Charles Ede Ellen was a fundholder.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Wonersh, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister of Charles Ede.7 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Wonersh Lodge, Wonersh, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister of Charles Ede.8 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister of Charles Ede.9 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister of Charles Ede.10 In the census of 2 April 1911 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England, she was listed as the sister in law of Charles Ede Charles was a retired Staff Sergeant living with his two single daughters, his sister in law Ellen Ede and three servants, a footman, cook and housemaid in the 15 roomed home. The census return states Charles and Emma has 12 children, five of which had died by 1911.11 Ellen is recorded as joining the The Voluntary Aid Detachment (V.A.D.) in November 1915 and worked part time in Knitting, Red + Work Party 1588 and left in November 1918. She gave her address as Edencroft in Bramley.12 Ellen died on 5 May 1932 in Edencroft, Bramley, Surrey, England.1,13,14 Ellen was buried on 10 May 1932 in Holy Trinity, Bramley, Surrey, England.15 The will of Ellen was proved on 22 June 1932 in London to Mary Emma Beachley Ede and Gerald Augustus Ede. Her effects were valued at £2,274 8s 9d.14 I took a picture of the Ede family grave in the churchyard of the Surrey village of Bramley on 4 February 2006. Charles, his wife Emma and their children Audley, Francis, Constance, Donald and Arthur and his sister Ellen are all buried there.1

     George Hubert Ede was born in 1862 in Wonersh, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Charles Ede and Emma Ede.2 He was baptised on 6 August 1862 in St John the Baptist, Wonersh, Surrey, England, with his brother Harold.3 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Wonersh Lodge, Wonersh, Surrey, England, he was listed as the son of Charles Ede George was a student.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Tarland Migvie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, he was listed as a visitor of William Skinner George was listed as General Medical Practitioner, visiting his future parents in laws.5 He married Jean Anderson Skinner, daughter of William Skinner and Margaret S Ross, on 29 September 1892 in The Village, Tarlande, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, after the banns had been read. George was aged 30 and a Doctor of Medicine from Bramley in Surrey.
