It reported that Kelvin smoothered his young 30 day old son with clingfilm during a drug-fuelled temporary madness. A Queensland judge imposed a mandatory life sentence. Kelvin maintained his innocence after the jury convicted him of murder after more than five hours of deliberation. Kelvin told the Supreme Court Justice Margaret White, in his voice wavering "I did not commit the murder of my son. That is all I have to say"
The cause of little Liam's seath was not determined until Kelvin started to confess to his doctor.1
