James Harvey1

     James Harvey was born in 1774 in Crediton, Devon, England.2 He was baptised on 31 July 1774 in Crediton, Devon, England, his parents were Richard Harvey and Rebecca.3 He married Frances Turmaine, daughter of Jean Turmaine and Elizabeth Marsh, on 10 May 1797 in Holy Cross, Westgate, Canterbury, Kent, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Steer and I Halsey. Jameas was a Captain in Fortescues Company Cornwall Militia.1,4 James was in the Royal Cornwall Militia. They moved around the country for the twenty years or so of the Napoleonic Wars. After they married, Frances accompanied him, producing children at regular intervals and in different locations. James’s family were from Crediton in Devon, where he enlisted, but he and Frances ended up at Bodmin, the Royal Cornwall Militia home.2 James died in Bodmin, Devon, England, it is believed in 1820/30.2

     George Turmaine was baptised on 26 October 1806 in All Saints, Canterbury, Kent, England.2,1 He was the son of Edward William Turmaine and Mary Ann Crow.1 He married Mary Ann Newport, daughter of William Newport and Sarah Gillham, on 17 October 1832 in St Mildreds, Canterbury, Kent, England.2,1 In Pigots Kent Directory of 1840 he was listed as a patten and brush maker.1 George was listed as the head of the family on the census of 6 June 1841 in St Margarets Street, Canterbury, Kent, England, George lived with his wife Mary Ann and their 25 year old servant Mary Baker. George worked as a banker's clerk.2,3,1 George was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at 40 St Georges Lane, Canterbury, Kent, England, George was living with his wife and working as a bankers clerk.2,4 George was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in St Margarets Street, Canterbury, Kent, England.5,2 George was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 1 Diamond Road, Lambeth, London, England, George was a bricklayer, living with his wife.6 George died in 1872 in St Saviour, London, England.7,2

     Peter Margetson Wallace was born on 19 September 1780 in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, England.2,3 He was the son of Peter Wallace and Sarah ...4 He was baptised on 28 September 1785 in St Marylebone, London, England.4 Both Peter and William were in the Royal Artillary, while they were stationed in Canada when Louisa and William married.3 He married Louisa Turmaine, daughter of Edward Guillaume Turmaine and Sarah Holness, on 12 March 1809 in St Mary, St Marylebone, London, England, after a licence was issued. Louisa was listed as being of the Parish of Holy Cross, Canterbury. Sadly I cannot read the names of the witnesses.1,5 His wife Louisa died on 1851 in Canterbury, Kent, England.6 Peter's military service was as follows:

     William Proctor Smith was born on 30 June 1774 in New York, New Jersey, USA.3 He married Mary Mein, daughter of Dr Thomas Mein and Margaret Ellis, in 1798 in Cape Town, South Africa.3,4 His wife Mary died on 25 December 1807 in Hawkshead, Lancashire, England, aged 27.3 He married Mary Wordsworth on 23 November 1816 Mary was William's second wife.3,4 William was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Coniston Bank, Hawkshead, Lancashire, England, William was decribed as Paymaster purser retired on Navy pay from the Navy Civil Service. He was living with his wife, two children and the household had four servants.5 William died on 6 April 1853 in Coniston Bank, Hawkshead, Lancashire, England, aged 78 from general decay of nature.3,6,4 William was buried in St Andrews, Coniston, Lancashire, England, with his first wife Mary.3
