Frances Turmaine1

Frances Turmaine was born about 1777. She was the daughter of Jean Turmaine and Elizabeth Marsh.1 She married James Harvey on 10 May 1797 in Holy Cross, Westgate, Canterbury, Kent, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Steer and I Halsey. Jameas was a Captain in Fortescues Company Cornwall Militia.2,3 James was in the Royal Cornwall Militia. They moved around the country for the twenty years or so of the Napoleonic Wars. After they married, Frances accompanied him, producing children at regular intervals and in different locations. James’s family were from Crediton in Devon, where he enlisted, but he and Frances ended up at Bodmin, the Royal Cornwall Militia home.4 Her husband James died on an unknown date in Bodmin, Devon, England, it is believed in 1820/30.4 Frances wrote her will on 20 June 1847 she wirites she is 'late of Crediton now Margate in Kent.4 Frances died in 1849 in Canterbury, Kent, England.1,4,5 Her estate was probated on 6 March 1856 by the oath of william Adams the sole Executor.4

Louisa was listed as being of the Parish of Holy Cross, Canterbury. Sadly I cannot read the names of the witnesses.3,4 Louisa died in 1851 in Canterbury, Kent, England.5

It stated: "Yesterday morning one of the sons of Mr Daniel Turmaine, woolcomber, of this city, in endevouring to leap a blind horse over a ditch he was thrown off and the animal falling upon him, the lad was killed on the spot."2
