     Thomas came from the Bedale area of Yorkshire, his parents worked on farms. He was "sold" at age nine years to another farm in the Thirsk area. He became an expert on horses and moved to Durham.1

Thomas Greathead was born on 6 May 1870 in Yafforth, Yorkshire, England.2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Mark Greathead and Elizabeth Lumley. In the census of 2 April 1871 in Ellerton on Swale, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Mark Greathead.7 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Burrill Cum Cowling, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Mark Greathead Thomas was a scholar.8 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Pott Hall, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as a farm servant of George Barker who was the head of household.9 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 43 Studley Road, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, he was listed as a boarder with Robert Pattison and family He worked as a Corporation labourer.10 He married Eliza Alton, daughter of ... He was baptised on 2 February 1905 in Weslyan Methodists Church, Musgrave Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England.4,3,5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 14 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Foundry, Easington, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Greathead.6 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 32 Cuthbertson Street, Trimdon Station, Wingate, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Greathead Thomas was a pony driver down the pit for Trimdon Colliery Company at Deaf Hilll but was out of work.7 He married Sarah E J Brown in 1930 in Easington, Durham, England, Thomas and Sarah had ten children, three of which died at birth.8,9 He was a coal miner in the Trimden area.      George Greathead was born on 30 April 1903 in 30 Cumberland Street, West Hartlepool, Durham, England.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Thomas Greathead and Eliza Alton. He was baptised on 21 May 1903 in Weslyan Methodists Church, Musgrave Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England.6,3,7 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 14 Rodwell Street, Trimdon Foundry, Easington, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Greathead.8 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 32 Cuthbertson Street, Trimdon Station, Wingate, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Greathead George was a shaft lad down the pit for Trimdon Colliery Company at Deaf Hilll but was out of work.9 He married Maude Darby, daughter of Robert Darby and Mary Ann Aunger, on 28 December 1929 in St Paul's, Drag Hill, Langdale, Durham, England, Witnessed by Margaret Greathead and James Ringer. Maude lived at Trimden Foundry.10 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George was listed as living at 16 Beech Grove, Easington, Durham, England, with his wife Maude. And his brother William and a gentleman called Richard Turnbull. George was a coal mine filler working below ground.11 His wife Maude died on 1989 in Durham, England.12 George died in February 1990 in Durham, England, aged 86.13

Mary Sue Greathead née Simmons
     Mary Sue Simmons was born on 19 September 1896.1 She was the daughter of Andy Simmons and Flora Lawson. She married Thomason Greathead, son of William Henry Greathead and Isabella Atkinson, on 17 November 1910 in McDowell County, West Virginia, USA, at her parents home after a licence had been issued.2,3 Mary and Thomason moved to Richmond Virginia. Mary died on 18 February 1954 in Richmond, Virginia, USA, aged 57.1 Mary was buried in 1954 in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, Miami, Twp, Hamilton County, Ohio, USA, in Section 1, lot 111, grave 7.4
