     John Marsh Carey was born in 1799 in Canterbury, Kent, England. He was the son of James Carey and Susanna Turmaine.2 He married Belander Turmaine, daughter of John Turmaine and Isabella Elizabeth Gill, on 22 April 1822 in St Margaret, Rochester, Kent, England.1 His wife Belander died on 31 January 1836 aged 32 She died twelve days after her last child was born.1 He married Mary Ann Taylor on 18 November 1837 in St James, Islington, London, England, On the marriage certificate Mary gives her father as Charles Attwood Gill. He was her step father.2,3,4,5 John died on 18 July 1854 in Milton, Gravesend, Kent, England.6

     Frederick Friday Wlliam Turmaine was born on 10 March 1909 in Dover, Kent, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Ernest Edward Turmaine and Ethel Eliza Stroud.1 He married Gladys Florence Norris, daughter of Frederick Willie Norris and Florence K Pickering, in 1930 in Dover, Kent, England.1 His wife Gladys died on 1955 in Middlesex Hospital, Marylebone, London, England.1,4 He married Alice E Bouche in 1956 in Dover, Kent, England, Frederick had a long standing relationship with Alice, she lived in Bologne. Since he worked on the cross channel ferries.1,5 Frederick died in January 1997 in Shepherdswell, Dover, Kent, England, aged 87.1,5,6

     George Francis Turmaine was born on 24 September 1900 in West Ham, London, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Edward Charles Turmaine and Henrietta Zitella Burton.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 77 Napier Road, West Ham, London, England, he was listed as the son of Edward Charles Turmaine.4,1 George joined up for the hostilities on 30 September 1918. He was described as being five foot two and a half inches high, with a thirty-five inch chest measurement. His hair was brown, his eyes grey and his complexion fresh. He also had a scar behind his left knee. His occupation was an export packer. His official number was K54437.

He sailed on two ships, Pembroke II from 30 September to 20 December 1918 and then on Diligence from 21 December 1918 to 14 March 1919 when he was demobbed.5 He married Gladys Mary Simons on 24 September 1928 in West Ham, London, England.1 George died on 3 September 1969 aged 68.1
