There are no known children from this marriage.1,3 Elizabeth died in 1810.4

     William Turmaine was baptised on 28 January 1781 in Holy Cross, Northgate, Canterbury, Kent, England.1,2 He was born on 28 January 1781 in Canterbury, Kent, England.1,3 He was the son of Jean Turmaine and Elizabeth Marsh.1 He married Sarah Fagg on 27 November 1803 in St John the Baptist, Margate, Kent, England, after banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Mary Silver, Maria Turmaine and L.C.Gunnel.1,4 William was indited for the theft of two tubs of butter, the property of Robert Wood, valued at forty shillings on 25 November 1807 in the Parish of St John the Baptist, Thanet within the Liberty of the Town and Port of Dover, Kent. He was committed for trial and the theft of one hundred pounds of butter, on 22 March 1808 in Dover, Kent.

He was tried and convicted on 6 June 1808 and sentenced on 6 June 1808 to seven years transportation. He was held onboard the Prison Hulks on the River Thames on 21 June 1808.

He was then indited feloniusly and burglariously for breaking and entering and for the theft of four blankets from William Abbott and William Kosley in December 1812 in Margate. He was commited for trial 31 December 1812. His trail took place on 17 February 1813 in Dover and he was convicted to be hanged by public execution at the Town Boundry, opposite the Eagle Inn.5,6 He died on 8 March 1813 in Dover, Kent, England, aged 32 His occupation was listed as a shoemaker.1,7 William was buried on 11 March 1813 in Holy Cross, Northgate, Canterbury, Kent, England.1,7

Arthur Albert Turmaine

Arthur Albert Turmaine
     Arthur Albert Turmaine was born on 1 April 1884 in West Ham, London, England.1,2,3 He was the son of William Turmaine and Caroline Raby.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 109 Livingstone Road, West Ham, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Turmaine Arthur was a scholar.4 Arthur seaman's career seems to start with his first sailing being on Impregnable on 18 to 24 July 1899. he was described as being five foot one and a half inches tall with brown hair and eyes and a dark complexion. He had a rose and Japanese woman's face on his arm and a bird on his left shoulder. His occupation was describes as a cinema operator. He served on many ships before being demobbed on 6 June 1921 and I will add details when time permits.

He did appear to spend seven days in the cells in 1910, but the punishment was remitted on the accession of HM King George V.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in Sans Pareil, Sheerness, Kent, England, he was listed as Boy 1 Class in the Royal Navy.1,6 He married Edith Emily Eastwell on 2 May 1909 in West Ham, London, England.1,7 Arthur died on 14 September 1931 in Chertsey, Surrey, England, aged 47.8

     William Turmaine was born on 24 March 1850 in Lambeth, London, England.2,1 He was the son of George Turmaine and Mary Ann Churchill.1 In the census of 30 March 1851 at 82 North Side, Lambeth, London, England, he was listed as the son of George Turmaine.3 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 6 Caroline Place, Lambeth, London, England, he was listed as the son of George Turmaine William was a scholar.4 He married Caroline McGown, daughter of John Raby, on 1 May 1876 in West Ham, London, England, When they married they lived at 12 Walter Street, Canning Town.5 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Duff Fields, Bromley St Leonards, London, England, William was a general labourer.6 He was a labourer at the chemical works in 1880.1 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 109 Livingstone Road, West Ham, London, England, William was working as a chemical labourer.7 William was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in William Street, West Ham, London, England, William was a foreman carman.8 His wife Caroline died on 1904 in Whitechapel, London, England.9 He died on 31 January 1914 in West Ham, London, England, aged 63 William died from Pneumonia and Cardiac failure. James Turmaine1

     James Turmaine was born on 19 December 1882 in West Ham, London, England.1,2 He was the son of William Turmaine and Caroline Raby.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 109 Livingstone Road, West Ham, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Turmaine James was a scholar.3 James emigrated to Australia.1 He married Emily Jane Sowden on 22 December 1909 in All Saints, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.1 He died on 26 May 1928 in Queensland, Australia, aged 45 James was a wharf labourer and bridge builder and he died from a heart attack.1

Thomas Henry Turmaine1

     Thomas Henry Turmaine was born on 27 February 1880 in West Ham, London, England.1,2 He was the son of William Turmaine and Caroline Raby.1 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Duff Fields, Bromley St Leonards, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Turmaine.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 109 Livingstone Road, West Ham, London, England, he was listed as the son of William Turmaine Thomas was a scholar.4 It is believed that Thomas signed up on 27 May 1896 to go to sea for twelve years using the name of his dead brother George # 14702. He would have been underage if he used his own age.

Assuming this theory is correct Thomas was five foot five and three eighths inches tall with dark brown hair, brown/grey eyes and a fresh complexion. He gave his occupation as labourer.

he served on several ships including HMS Impregnable, HMS Ganges, HMS Boscawen, HMS Vivid I, HMS Marsey and HMS Ramillilo. He served initially as a boy ending as a ordinary seaman. He was of good charector.5 He died on 1 December 1896 in Malta Hospital, Malta, aged 16 from enteric fever and is probably buried under the name he went to sea under that being George Thomas Turmaine.5

     Elizabeth Rose Turmaine was born on 28 August 1887 in West Ham, London, England.1,2 She was the daughter of William Turmaine and Caroline Raby.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 109 Livingstone Road, West Ham, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Turmaine Lizzey was a scholar.3 Elizabeth emigrated to Australia.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in William Street, West Ham, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Turmaine.4 She married Walter Mitchell.1 Elizabeth died on 30 September 1933 aged 46.1
