     Timothy Greated was born about 1786 in London, England.1 He was the son of Joseph Greated and Ann Bray. He married Mary Ann Daly on 3 November 1811 in St James, Clerkenwell, London, England, by licence. The ceremony was witnessed by J Greated and Jack Perry.2,3,4 Timothy was reported in the Old Bailey trial of George Grudgington, John Bosewell and Charles Seward as saying that he was a clerk to the London Insurance Company and he knew nothing of the transaction. They were indicted for stealing on 1 September 1821 one milk pot value 1 shilling, the goods of Timothy Greated. George and John were both aged 19, Charles aged 20 all were found guilty and confined for six months and whipped. It would appear that the larceny was commited fom No 18 Pleasant Row, they got in through a window.5 Timothy was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 6 June 1841 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, Timothy was a Manager of Marine Department in London Finance.6,7 Timothy was listed in an advertisement for the London Assurance Corporation as the Manager of the Marine Department in the Manchester Times of 24 December 1853.8 Timothy died on 29 July 1858 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, Timothy was described in the Morning Chronicle of 14 August 1858 as a highly esteemed and valued officer of the London Assurance Corporation for upwards of fifty years.9,10,11 Timothy was buried on 5 August 1858 in St Mary the Virgin, Church Walk, Hayes, Middlesex, England.12 The will of Timothy was proved on 12 August 1858 at Principal Register by his sons Charles Greated and Joseph Greated both of 13 Ely Place, Holborn. His effects were valued under £9,000.13 Timothy gave his address as c/o Mr C A Greated 13 Crosby Hall Chambers, Bishopgate Street in the London Joint Stock Bank Shareholders listing in 1873.14 There is a white marble memorial with the bust of Rev Charles Manning on top who was the vicar of St Mary the Virgin in Hayes. His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of the previous vicar. On this memorial are details about the deaths of many of the Greated family, it can be found inside the church, close to the North door.15,16

Her husband Timothy had died in 1858. Her personal estate was valued at under £2,000.7 There is a white marble memorial with the bust of Rev Charles Manning on top who was the vicar of St Mary the Virgin in Hayes. His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of the previous vicar.      Charles Augustine Greated was born about 1808 in Clerkenwell, London, England.1 He was the son of Timothy Greated and Mary Ann Daly. In the census of 6 June 1841 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Timothy Greated Charles was a clerk.2,3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Dolphin Hotel, High Street, Southampton, Hampshire, England, he was listed as the visitor at the hotel as he was working as a commercial agent. The person who completed the enumeration sheet gave his wrong age, or maybe Charles gave the misleading information to the Innkeeper a widow called Mary Guy.4 Charles and Joseph's father died on 29 July 1858. They received probate on his estate on 12 August 1858 and both lived at 13 Ely Place, Holborn.5 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Mary Ann Greated Charles was an Insurance Broker.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Mary Ann Greated Charles was a member of Lloyds.7 Timothy gave his address as c/o Mr C A Greated 13 Crosby Hall Chambers, Bishopgate Street in the London Joint Stock Bank Shareholders listing in 1873.8 Charles was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 43 Highgate Road, St Pancras, London, England, Charles was working in house property.9 He died on 19 December 1886 in 43 Highgate Road, St Pancras, London, England, Charles, late of 13 Ely Place, Charterhouse Street, Holborn did not marry.10 The will of Charles was proved on 16 February 1887 at the Principal Registry to Joseph Greated his brother of Letchmore Heath, Elstree in the Company of Hertford Esquire. His personal estate was valued at £2055 12s 2d.5

     James Greated was born about 1816 in Clerkenwell, London, England.1,2 He was the son of Timothy Greated and Mary Ann Daly. In the census of 6 June 1841 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Timothy Greated.3,4 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Mary Ann Greated James was a landed proprietor.5 James's sister died on 17 September 1870 at Ely Place. He received probate on 11 October 1870.6 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 13 Ely Place, Holborn, London, England, he was listed as the son of Mary Ann Greated.7 James's mother died on 23 April 1879 . He received probate on 8 July 1879.6 James was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 17 Gloucester Crescent, St Pancras, London, England, James gained his income from houses.8 James was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 17 Gloucester Crescent, St Pancras, London, England, James was living by his own means and had a a servant called Jane Hull.9 James's brother Joseph died on 5 July 1893. He received probate on 3 August 1893 together with George Brodie a solicitor.6 James died on 21 November 1898 in 6 Beaumont Street, Marylebone, London, England.10,11,6 James was buried on 25 November 1898 in St Mary the Virgin, Church Walk, Hayes, Middlesex, England, By Coroners order. His usual address was 6 Beaumont Street, Weymouth Lane, Marylebone.12 The will of James was proved on 14 December 1898 in London to Alexander Marsden MD of "Coombe" Nightingale Lane, Balham Street and George Brodie of N33 Bedford Row. His effects were valued at £4773 8s 5d and resworn in June 1899 as £5123 8s 5d.

The will was written on 12 March 1852 and stated that James formerly of 13 Ely Place, late 17 Gloucester Crescent, Regents Park a Gentlemen was admitted tenant under the will of Ann Dennis Mansell according to the customs of the manor tenement formerly in the possession of George Mutter and then or late Robert Arbuckle. It stated that all rea and personal estate to ich entitled except estates vested to him upon and trusts or by way of mortgage to te use of Alexander Marsden and F Chase their heirs, executors, adminstrator and assigns. The first codicil was added on 1 October 1898 ipon the death of F Chase and naming George Brodie as executor. There was a traced map from the Ordnance Survey map of 25.3444 inches to the mile of a piece of land between 130 and 131 Edgeware Road containing 33 perches. This map was used as it was the largest available at the time.6,13 There is a white marble memorial with the bust of Rev Charles Manning on top who was the vicar of St Mary the Virgin in Hayes. His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of the previous vicar. He does not appear to be one of the 2nd Battalion Duke of Wellington Regiment in the Barracks. He is listed as being 10 years younger than he should and single. Having said that he did nor complete the return so I do think this is him, perhaps entertaining the troups.5

     Joseph John Greated was born in 1854 in Clerkenwell, London, England.1 He was the son of Joseph John Greated and Mary Shayler. In the census of 7 April 1861 in 86 St John Street Road, Clerkenwell, London, England, he was listed as the son of Joseph John Greated Joseph was a scholar.2 In the census of 2 April 1871 in 250 Liverpool Road, Islington, London, England, he was listed as the nephew of Anne Greated Joseph was a lace student.3 Joseph was articled on 21 July 1871 to Thomas Edwards of Edwards and Co solicitors in 28 King Street, Covent Garden in London for five years. However it appears, he took up farming in Ireland in 1875 at Lydican Castle, Clare Galway.4,5 He married Charlotte Sharman, daughter of James Maud Sharman, on 19 August 1885 in St Andrews, Bradford, Yorkshire, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by Will and Alice Sharman. Joseph was a farmer and he gave his address as Lydican Castle, Castle Clare.6,7,8 The heading in the Belfast News Letter of 1 May 1888 was "A Londoner's experiment in Irish farming" and reports the request Joseph made through his MP Mr T M Healy. Joseph was a tenant of the property of Mr O'Flaherty a solicitor in the County of Galway, and was asking for a reduction in the year's rent of £300. He stated that the poor law valuation was only £185. He said also that he foolishly took the farm when he was a young man, coming straight from London and having no experience of farming. The application was after much representation from each party refused with costs againt Joseph.9 Joseph died on 16 November 1894 in Lydican Castle, County Galway, Ireland, as a result of alcohol.4,10,11,12,13 Joseph did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 16 December 1894 at Tuam to Charlotte his widow. His effects were valud at £568.13 The second daughter of the late Brother Joseph John Greated of Ciaregalway, Rebecca was stated in a newspaper article in Belfast News Letter of 5 December 1900 as one of six girls admitted by the govenors of the Masonic Girl's School.14

      Amos Thomas Greated was born in 1860 in Clerkenwell, London, England, James was indexed in the GRO index as Amos Thomas. I believe it was a mistranscription.1 He was the son of Joseph John Greated and Mary Shayler. In the census of 7 April 1861 in 86 St John Street Road, Clerkenwell, London, England, he was listed as the son of Joseph John Greated.2 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 176 St John Street Road, St James, Clerkenwell, London, England, he was listed as the nephew of George Shayler James is described as a Needle book pattern proprietor.3 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 57 Onslow Gardens, Hornsey, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the nephew of George Shayler.4 James died in 1935 in Edmonton, London, England.5 James was buried on 17 October 1935 in Islington Cemetery, Islington, London, England.6

     Joseph Greated was born about 1778.1 He was the son of Joseph Greated and Ann Bray. Joseph was listed as living in 15 Turnagain Lane, Snowhill in 1799 and working as a carpenter and undertaker.2 He married Rebecca Catlin, daughter of ... Catlin, on 21 February 1804 in St Andrew, Holborn, London, England, after a licence had been issued. They were married by John Lake. The ceremony was witnessed by John and Sarah Catlin. Joseph was from Ely Place and Rebecca was from St Sepulchre, London.3,4,5,6,7 Joseph appeared as a bankrupt in the extract from the London Gazette that appeared in Jackson Oxford Journal 16 November 1822. He was listed as an auctioneer of Snow-hill.8 His wife Rebecca died on 27 March 1829 She is listed as living in Islington.9 Joseph died on 8 March 1838 in Clerkenwell, London, England.10,9 Joseph was buried on 16 March 1838 in St Mary the Virgin, Church Walk, Hayes, Middlesex, England, his address was listed as Gloster St, St Johns Street.1 There is a white marble memorial with the bust of Rev Charles Manning on top who was the vicar of St Mary the Virgin in Hayes. His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of the previous vicar. On this memorial are details about the deaths of many of the Greated family, it can be found inside the church, close to the North door.9,11
