William Thomas was born on 15 September 1805 in Gorran, Cornwall, England.1 He was the son of Benjamin Thomas and Catherine Eddy.1 He married Sarah Robins on 18 October 1832 in Tywardreath, St Austell, Cornwall, England.1 William was a copper miner, as were many men aroung St Austell. Times were hard which probably convinced William and Sarah to try pastures new.1 He and Sarah Thomas took a free passage sailing on "Duke of Roxburgh" from Plymouth, Devon, Englandon 5 October 1839 arriving in Port Nicholson, New Zealand on 8 February 1840. They took their children William Robins, Eliza Robins, Henry Eddy and Catherine Eddy with them. Catherine appeared to have died on the voyage, but just as they were about to commit her body to the depths her mother realised she was still breathing.1 He married Charlotte Hopton on 5 April 1855 in Lower Hutt, New Zealand.1 William died on 29 September 1886 in New Zealand aged 81.1

Sarah Robins was born on 28 January 1810 in Berre Ferrers, Cornwall, England, Sarah was the second child born of eight children.1 She married William Thomas, son of Benjamin Thomas and Catherine Eddy, on 18 October 1832 in Tywardreath, St Austell, Cornwall, England.1 William was a copper miner, as were many men aroung St Austell. Catherine emigrated in 1839 took a free passage sailing on "Duke of Roxburgh" from Plymouth, Devon, Englandon 5 October 1839 arriving in Port Nicholson, New Zealand on 8 February 1840 with her parents, two brothers and sister. Catherine semed to die whilst on the voyage and just as her body was about to be commited to the deep her mother realised she was still breathing.1

Charles Bayley Oldfield was born on 21 November 1866 Charles had a sister Gertrude Letitia Oldfield born 15 March 1868 and brother Frederick Briscoe Oldfield born 7 April 1871.2 He was the son of George Briscoe Oldfield and Edith Radcliffe.2 He married Charlotte Elizabeth Greathed, daughter of Edward Harris Greathed and Charlotte Frederica Caroline Osborn, on 19 July 1905 in Trinity Church, Chelsea, London, England, after the banns were read. The ceremony was witnessed by FB and GB Oldfield, Charlotte Greathed, Richard G Glynn and Algernon K B Osborne. Charles was a JP and Captain in 6th Middlesex Regiment and was living in the Sedgehill Rectory in Shaftesbury. Charlotte lived at at 103 Cadogan Gardens.1,3,4,5,6 His wife Charlotte died on 6 February 1952 in Blandford, Dorset, England, aged 79.7,8 In 1952 Burkes Peerage states that Charles lived at Finkley House, Andover.9
