Herbert was the 9th Baronet of Croft Castle in Hereford. His London home was 98 Duke's Avenue, Chiswick.
Croft Castle was a 17th century stone quadrangular manor house, built close to the site of the old medieval castle. At each corner of the high curtain wall, was a small castellated round tower, with a small square tower flanking the north side. The castle was restored after Civil War slighting and the east range was given a Gothic reconstruction in the 18th century. In 1461, the medieval castle, Sir Richard Croft and Wigmore Castle, five miles to the north-west, played a part in the nearby battle of Mortimor's Cross. The building and grounds are now owned by the National Trust.2
Herbert George Denman Croft married Georgina Eliza Lucy Marsh. Herbert died before 1921.

George Greathead was born about 1872.1 He was the son of John Greathead.1 He married Ada Ellwood, daughter of Thomas Ellwood and Agnes Garnett, on 24 September 1898 in St Matthew the Apostle, Burnley, Lancashire, England, after the banns had been read on 28 August, 4 September and 11 September 1898. George was a fire beater which I understand is someone who tended factory boilers and gave his address as 22 Richmond Street and Ada gave the Rectory, Colne. Had she worked for the Rector and that is why she was far from home!!The ceremony was witnessed by Edward Greathead and Eleanor Ingram.1,2,3,4,5,6,7 There are many stories about what happened to Ada? There is a record of Ada Ellwood travelling from Liverpool on board Teutonic arriving in New York, USA on 23 October1895. She was single, age 19 gave her last place of residence as Haverthwite (New York Passenger Arrival Lists (Ellis Island) 1892-1924) . Her passage was paid for by John Russell of Walnut Ill, and she was to join him in the US. Her last residence was Colne. The shipping record shows she had previously been in the U.S. but the details are unclear. However her Landing card shows she had been in McLean Ill from 1894 to 1899 so how she married in Habergham Eaves in 1898 is less than clear. Her occupation is shown as "Domestic" and she is shown as "Single"
There is a record of Ada Ellwood marrying George Greathead after three sets of banns on 24 September 1898 in Burnley.
It would appear that Ada Ellwood also married John Barrney C Russell in Illinois, USA in 1900, and had three children

Ada E. b. c. 1880, died 20 July 1950 in Whiteside. IL they are buried in Erie Cemetery, Whiteside, Illinois.
Was she a bigamist? Did George Greathead travel to the USA and die there sometime between 1898 and 1900? Or were they divorced? Divorce was outside the reach of ordinary folk back then. I can find no death for George Greathead in UK.8,9
