Herbert Palmer Cox was baptised on 29 September 1748 in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England.1 He was the son of John George Cox and Prisca Philpot.1 Herbert left England for St Vincent on an assignment with the British Army, probably after 1770, but most certainly before 1774.1 He married Jane Alexander, daughter of Hon Harry Alexander and Lydia Martin, on 6 August 1774 in St Vincent, West Indies.1 Herbert was a prominent individual on St Vincent as is listed as a member of a "Friendly Club" in 1785. he held several ranks in the British Army and/or Island Militia from at least 1789 until his death. His name is found in the St Vincent Militia Commanders lists as Ensign in 1789, servig under Lieutenant Colonel John Greathead. Is it this man who leant his name to Herberts son Paul Greathead Cox? It is known from St Vincent records that he owned slaves and speculated that he owned at least one sugar plantation in addition to his military and governmental duties.1 He died on 8 April 1824 in St Vincent, West Indies, aged 75 although his burial place is unknown , his death is recorded in the records of St George's Anglican Cathedral in Kingstown, St Vincent.1

John George Cox married Jane Ann ...1 He was born in St Vincent, West Indies, It is believed John was born about 1776 but no christening record at St George's Anglican Cathedral, Kingstown, St Vincent can be found. The lack of the record is likely attributed to the unstable times between the First Carib War and the French takeover of 1778.1 He was the son of Herbert Palmer Cox and Jane Alexander.1
