     John Greathead was born in 1858 in Catterick, Yorkshire, England.2,1 He was the son of William Greathead and Elizabeth Dodsworth.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Oak Tree Street, Catterick, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Greathead.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Long Row, Horsforth, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Greathead John was a scholar.4 He married Ellen Newton in 1879 in Bramley and Holbeck District Registered Building, Holbeck, Yorkshire, England.5,6,7 John was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 13 Londesborough Street, Wortley, Bramley, Yorkshire, England, John was a railway stoker. He was also listed as lodging with William Bibby and family and they gave his occupation as a railway fireman. They lived at 12 North Terrace, Orton, Westmoreland. I would suspect he was staying in Westmoreland but had previously filled in the form at home, thus being doubly listed.8 John was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Midland Terrace, Heaton, Bradford, Yorkshire, England, John was a locomotive stoker.9 John was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 at 3 Regent Grove, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England, John was a railway engine driver.10 He witnessed the marriage of Henry Vincent and Hetty Greathead on 27 September 1905 in Christ Church, Harrogate, Yorkshire, England.11,12 John was the People's Warden of St Andrew's Church in Starbeck near Harrogate in Yorkshire from 1911 through to 1914.13 John was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 10 Regent Grove, Starbeck, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Yorkshire, England, John was a locomotive engine driver for N E Railway Company.
