Administration papers were issued on 3 May 1906 in Manchester to her husband George who was a clothier. Her effects were valued at £164 10s 0d.1

     Elizabeth Ann ... was born about 1858 in Jobs Hill, Durham, England, I believe her Surname was either Calvert or Greenwell.2 She married William Greathead, son of Thomas Greathead and Mary Whittaker, in 1897 She was William's second wife and her name before marriage was Calvert or Greenwell.1 Elizabeth was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 at 5 Station Street, Brandon and Byshottles, Durham, England, Elizabeth was a dressmaker.3 Elizabeth's husband died on 23 November 1900. She received administration on 23 April 1901 in Durham.4 Elizabeth was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 5 Station Street, Waterhouses, Durham, England, Elizabeth was living with her step son John William who was a grocer in the Co-operative stores. They lived in their four roomed home.5 She died on 20 January 1938 in 37 Crossgate, Durham, England, Her usual address was 5 Station Street, Waterhouses, Durham.6,4 The will of Elizabeth was proved on 12 February 1938 in Durham to John William Greathead, her step son, he was a grocer. Her effectes were valued at £257 16s 3d.4

Maud Bentley1

     Maud Bentley was born on 27 July 1878 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.2,3,4 She married Jesse Gibson Greathead, son of Elijah Greathead and Emma Gibson, on 26 August 1900 in St Marks Church, City Road, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by John Robert Stockbridge and Lillie Stockbridge. Jesse was a tin plate worker and Maud a machinist. Both gave 30 River Street as their address. Jesse's father Elijah Greathead was a dairyman and confectioner. No details of her father were recorded on the marriage register.1,5,6,7,8,9 Elijah and his family sailed from Liverpool on 24 October 1900 arriving in Ellis Island, New York on 31 October 1900 on the ship "Teutonic". Elijah was stated as aged 55 and a Confectioner, Jesse aged 25 and a Plateworker, Thomas aged 29 and a labourer, Mrs J Greathead aged 22 was a plate worker and Mrs Greathead aged 48. They lived in Manchester and were travelling to New York. The manifest states they were going to visit Mississippi. It would appear that maybe Jesse and his new wife were on their honeymoon!!!

The "Teutonic" was built by Harlan & Wolff Limited, Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1889. She was 9,686 gross tons; 582 (bp) feet long; 57 feet wide. Steam triple expansion engine, single screw. Service speed 20 knots. 1,490 passengers (300 first class, 190 second class, 1,000 third class). She was built for White Star and Dominion Lines, in 1889 and named "Teutonic". Liverpool-New York service. Captured the Blue Ribbon in 1891. Scrapped in Germany in 1921.2,10

In the census of 2 April 1911 in 10 Fenwich Street, Hulme, Manchester, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the wife of Jesse Gibson Greathead.11 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 28 Durham Street, Manchester, Lancashire, England, she was listed as the wife of Jesse Gibson Greathead.12 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Maud was listed as living at 28 Dunham Street, Manchester, Lancashire, England, with her husband Jesse. And their daughter Emma. Jesse was a tin gas meter maker.4 Maud died on 19 August 1960 in 28 Dunham Street, Manchester, Lancashire, England, aged 82.13,14 Maud did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 12 September 1960 to Manchester to her widower Jessie Gibson Greathead retired sheet metal worker. Her effects were valued at £255 8s 9d.14 Maud was buried on 21 November 1960 in Southern Cemetery, Manchester, Lancashire, England, in grave BB Church of England number 198 her husband Jessie was buried with her in 1963.15

     John James Edwin Greathead was born on 8 September 1860 in Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.2,3,4,5,6 He was the son of Robert Greathead and Sarah Ann Bright.1 His father wrote in his will of 4 November 1887 that he would have left something in his will to his two sons Robert and John, but as they have treated me so very badly they cannot expect that I could leave them anything. What did Robert do? Roberts daughter Ada received her grandfathers watch.7 He married Mary Ann Wisbey, daughter of Arthur Wisbey and Hannah Jackson, on 30 January 1888 in Free Church of England, Fitzroy, Richmond, Victoria, Australia.8,9,10,11,12 His wife Mary died on 30 January 1918 in Beamish Street, Canterbury, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, aged 54.3,13,14,15 John died on 26 December 1919 in Canterbury, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, aged 59.3,13 John was buried on 27 December 1919 in C of E Necropolis, Rookwood, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.13 A gravestone was erected saying to our brother, mother and father by their children Ruby, Eva and Audrey. They were all buried in Plot number 430,431.13

There was a bond amounting to £287 with the surety her daughter Ruby Maud Ferguson Gallagher, wife of Denis Joseph Gallagher a clerk from Campsie.
