Emma Elizabeth Coates was born on 30 January 1861 in Mile End, London, England.1,2 She was the daughter of William Coates and Emma Elizabeth Lee.3,4 She was baptised on 31 March 1861 in St Mary, Paddington Green, Westminster, London, England, her father was a coal porter and the family lived in Brindley Street.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in 7 Brindley Street, Paddington, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Coates.5 Henry took out a licence on 30 August 1877 giving his address as within the New Parish of Saint Stephens, Stepney.6 She married Henry Greathead, son of John Greathead and Elizabeth Seaman, on 2 September 1877 in St Philips, Stepney, London, England, after a licence was issued. The ceremony was witnessed by J Widday and Amelia Wilkes?. Both Henry and Emma gave their address as 29 Baker Street. Henry was a soldier, maybe he was about to be posted and that was why they took out a licence. Both Emma and Amelia signed the register with an X.7,8 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 8 Clark Street, Mile End, London, England, she was listed as the wife of Henry Greathead.9 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 30 Bill Street, Limehouse, London, England, she was listed as the wife of Henry Greathead.10 In the census of 31 March 1901 she was listed as the wife of Henry Greathead.11 Her husband Henry died on 21 November 1907 in Saint George in the East Infirmary, St George in the East, London, England, Henry had been admitted on 13 November. His address was listed on the hospital records as 5 Red Mead Lane. His body was released for a private burial.12,13 Emma was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 5 Red Mead Lane, Wapping, London, England, Emma was a dress maker living with her two children and niece, Ann McKinley, a restaurant waitress in her five roomed home.14 Emma was admitted into St George in the East Infirmary on 7 March 1917 at 11:40am with a Pulmonary Tuber. She gave her address was 4 Cannon Street Road and was a dressmaker. She gave her next of kin as her daughter Annette Green of 93 Chaser Buildings in Borough Street.15 It would appear that when William Henry returned from WW1 a party was held, the flags were flown and this picture was taken.16
Emma died in 1919 in St George in the East, London, England.17

Maria Cantrill was born in 1845 in Manchester, Lancashire, England.1,2 She was the daughter of Henry John Cantrill and Ann Newport.3 She married William George Greathead, son of Samuel Greathead and Jane Treweek, on 18 March 1866 in Manchester Cathedral, Manchester, Lancashire, England, after a licence had been issued. The ceremony was witnessed by James William McConnell and Sarah Ellen Scott. William was a book keeper and gave his address as 24 Bold Street in Hulme, Maria wgave her address as 33 Dudley Street in Hulme.4,5,6,7 Her husband William died on 3 May 1870 in Manchester, Lancashire, England, aged 27.8,5,1,9 Maria was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 2 April 1871 in 37 Pickford Street, Stretford, Cheshire, England, Maria was an annuitant.10 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 41 Pickford Street, Stretford, Cheshire, England, she was listed as the sister in law of Richard Methley Greathead Marie was a dressmaker.11
