Sir Basil Mott was born about 1850 in Leicestershire, England.2 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 109 Broomspring Lane, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as a boarder of Elizabeth Cluley an annuitant.3 He married Florence Harmar Parker in 1887 in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.2,4 Basil was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 83 Kimberley Road, Kensington, London, England, Sir Basil was a civil engineer living with his wife, young son and two servants.5 Basil was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 10 Macaulay Road, Clapham, London, England, Sir Basil was a civil engineer living with his wife and two servants.6 Basil was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 10 Arkwright Road, Hampstead, London, England, Basil was a consulting civil engineer living with his wife, son and mother in law. James Henry Greathead was also visiting. James daughter Mary and Basil's son Mark married in 1915. Three servants completed the household who were living in 13 rooms.7,8 His wife Florence died on 1923 in Hampstead, London, England.9 Sir Basil Mott was President of the Institution of Civil Engineers in November 1924-November 1925.10 Basil died in 1938 in Hampstead, London, England.11

Douglas did not take the name of Greathead, he was the nephew of his adoptive mother. Douglas Quince was the Manager of Halls Juice Factory Mataffin, Nr Nelsfruit, E Tvl. He married Elsa Berg.
