Sidney Milner Shaw was born on 24 January 1866 in Albion, Karkloof, Natal, Durban, South Africa.1 He was the son of Frederick Edgar Shaw and Mary Milner Greathead. Being an adventurous boy, he left home at the age of thrirteen, and while delivering timber in Maritzburg found himself on a commandeered wagon which was destined for Isandgwana and Rorke's Drift. In 1879 he survived the battle and then spent some years transport riding between Durban, the Barberton goldfields and Lonrenco Marques, leading the kind of life which is well described in Sir Percy FitsPatrick's Jock of the Bushveld. By the early 1890s he was back in the Dargle playng polo as one of the foundation members of the earliest Natal Polo Club, Nothiong could keep him out of any excitement that was on the goand with his brothers and many Karkloof cousins in the Carbineers he resisted the Boer invasion of Natal in 1899. He survived the seige of Ladysmith.2 He married Helen Mary Charleson on 19 December 1909 in St Cyprian, Natal, Durban, South Africa, Helen was also known as Nell.2 Sidney died in July 1965 in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, aged 99.1

Errol Devereux Lancelot Shaw was born about 1917.1 He was an M.A, (Cantab) Teacher at King Edward High, Salisbury, Rhodesia. He was the son of Edgar Watson Shaw and Ruby Allena Kate Chapman. He died on 3 March 1945 in Germany Errol died of dysentery on a forced Stalag 344 march into Germany, of prisoners from camps in Poland, in front of the advancing Russians. He had served as a Gunner in the Royal Horse Artillery 11 (Honourable Artillery Coy.) Regt.with a service no 1095785.1,2 Errol was buried in 1939-45 War Cemetery, Berlin, Brandenburg, Germany, in plot Grave 11.B .14. This is in the district of Charlottenburg, 8km from city centre.1
