Alan Eden Ede was born in 1856 in Honiton, Devon, England.1,2 He was the son of Henry Ede and Ellen Openshaw.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 in Landowne, Sidmouth, Devon, England, he was listed as the son of Henry Ede.4 Alan died on 16 March 1898 in Africa.5 The will of Alan was proved on 24 August 1898 he was described as of Barberton, Transvaal in South Africa. Administration with will was issued to Bessie Staples the attorney of Edward Wilkinson, possibly some relation to the wife of his brother Elton. His effects were valued at £485 16s 11d.5
