Marmaduke Allan was born in 1835 in Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of Marmaduke Allan and Barbara Gill. He was baptised on 2 August 1835.1 In the census of 7 June 1841 in Thorngate, Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Marmaduke Allan.3 In the census of 30 March 1851 at Thorngate, Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Marmaduke Allan Marmaduke was an agricultural labourer.4 He married Dinah Heward on 3 December 1858 in Barnard Castle Wesleyan Methodist, Barnard Castle, Durham, England, Dinah was described as the daughter of William Hewart mason. She was in fact one of two illegitimate twin daughters born in 1833 to Mary Hewart or HEWARD of Harwood in Teesdale. Mary married William TEWARD mason in 1836.5 Marmaduke was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in 34 Hendon Road, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, Durham, England, Marmaduke was a master butcher living with his wife and two children Mary and John George who was only 5 months old.6 Marmaduke was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in 18 Coronation Street, Sunderland, Durham, England, Marmaduke was a butcher living with his wife and children, all scholars. They had one servant.7 Marmaduke was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 7 Whitehouse Road, Sunderland, Durham, England, Marmaduke was a butcher living with his wife and children.8 Marmaduke was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 7 Whitehouse Road, Sunderland, Durham, England, Marmaduke was a butcher living with his wife and children.9 Marmaduke was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 7 Whitehouse Road, Sunderland, Durham, England, Marmaduke was a retired butcher living with his wife. His son Marmaduke and daughter in law were staying with them.10 Marmaduke died in 1903 in Sunderland, Durham, England.11
