He married Eleanor Allan, daughter of Marmaduke Allan and Barbara Gill, on 13 August 1859 in Wesleyan Chapel, Barnard Castle, Teesdale, Durham, England.1 Richard was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Marshall Terrace, Darlington, Durham, England, Richard was listed as a millwright living with his wife and children including little Edith who was only two months old.2 Richard was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 3 April 1881 in 9 Westwood Terrace, Thornaby on Tees, Yorkshire, England, Richard was working as a millwright, his mother in law wasliving with the family.3 Richard died on 15 December 1908 in Thornaby on Tees, Yorkshire, England, aged 71.1,4 Richard was buried in Thornaby Cemetery, Thornaby on Tees, Yorkshire, England.1
