He married Sarah Ann Greathead, daughter of William Greathead and Ada Lamplough, on 2 April 1927 in All Saints, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, the ceremony was witnessed by Jack Greathead, Isabella Tunstall and Christopher Jackson and the marriage performed by Ronald Metcalfe after the banns had been read.1,2 His wife Sarah died on 1932 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.3

He married Evelyn Greathead, daughter of William Greathead and Ada Lamplough, on 3 August 1935 in Register Office, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Their marriage was witnessed by Evelyn’s sister Ada and future brother in law Robert Victor Legg.3 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Joseph was listed as living at 45 Northumberland Street, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, with his wife Evelyn. Joseph was a blast furnace worker living with his wife, children and sister in law Ada Legg.4 Joseph died in August 2001 in Hartlepool, Durham, England, aged 87.5

     Harold Worville Greathead was born on 15 August 1878 in 1 Althorp Road, Battersea, London, England, His birth was registered on 21 September 1878 at Wandsworth Register Office. His father was described as a Civil Engineer.1,2,3,4 He was the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E and Elizabeth Sophia Worville. He was baptised on 5 March 1879 in Holy Trinity, Tooting, London, England, he lived in Althorp Road and his father was described as a civil engineer.5 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 18 Walton Court, St Thomas, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, he was listed as the grandson of Elizabeth Worville.1,6 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 38 Walton Crescent, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, he was listed as the grandson of Elizabeth Worville Harold was a scholar.7 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 7 Brackley Terrace, Chiswick, Brentford, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E Harold was a clerk.8 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 7 Brackley Terrrace, Chiswick, Brentford, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E Harold was a draughtsman in an engineers.9 Harold sailed from London on 15 May 1913 aboard SS Beltrana to Cape, South Africa arriving on 12 September 1913 for a better life due to decline in family fortunes and the general depression. At this time his occupation was an engineering draughtsman. His main interests were amateur dramatics, writing short plays and scenic photography. He loved gardening and was a keen philatelist, cyclist and a cricket enthusiast.

Harold did not serve in the forces during WW1 due in part to poor eyesight and remained in Cape Town throughout the war period. His first job in South Africa was with a theatrical company and after a few months whilst in Kimberley, he was personally invited to join Kodak in Cape Town via a newspaper advertisement for a travelling salesman, he became renowned in that field. In 1922, the year of the strike, Harold and Marie moved to Johanesburg, to which he had been transfered to open the first branch of Kodak.1,10,4 He married Marie Johanna Eksteen on 16 April 1918 in Dutch Reform Church, Three Anchor Bay, Cape Town, South Africa, Maria worked for Kodak.1 Harold died on 12 September 1942 in South Africa aged 64 Cancer of the throat after three years of illness; he died in bed while still working for Kodak.1,4

She was baptised on 27 September 1876 in Holy Trinity, Tooting, London, England, She lived in Althorp Road, Wandsworth Common and her father was described as an engineer.4 Constance was admitted to the Lowestoft School of Art in January 1890. Her address was given as 3 Royal Terrace and father was an accountant.5 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Ravenscourt Gardens, Hammersmith, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of Eugene Charles Greathead C E.6 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 3/4/5 Queens Gardens, Margate, Kent, England, she was listed as the boarder of at the hotel and was employed as the hotel secretary.3 She was working at the Hydro Therapy Centre, Matlock in 1906. He was baptised on 5 October 1884 in St Peter, Hammersmith, London, England, His address was 1 Myrtle Terrace, Regent Court Park. Her father was a Commercial clerk.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Ravenscourt Gardens, Hammersmith, London, England, he was listed as the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E.6 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 7 Brackley Terrace, Chiswick, Brentford, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E Claud was a clerk.7 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 7 Brackley Terrrace, Chiswick, Brentford, Middlesex, England, he was listed as the son of Eugene Charles Greathead C E Claud was an assistant in a silversmiths.8 He married Beatrice E Harris on 21 November 1914 in St Luke, Hammersmith, London, England, after the banns had been read on 1, 8 and 15 November. The marriage was witnessed by Marian Horbury Harris, Hubert Frank Adams and Winifred Agnes Harris. They both gave their address as 8 Boscombe Road. Beatrice's father Arthur was dead. Claud gave his occupation as a clerk.9,1,10 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Claud was listed as living at Iona, 201 Hatfield Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex, England, with his wife Beatrice. Claud was a Secretary for a Building Contractor living with his wife.11 His wife Beatrice died on 1944 in Uxbridge, Middlesex, England.12 He married Julie Alice White, daughter of Albert White, on 12 April 1947 in St Algate, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, The ceremony followed the reading of banns and was witnessed by A J Adams and A E White. Claud was described as a widower and Company Secretary and livig at 201 Harefield Road, Uxbridge. Julia was a spinster living at 48 Cowley Road, Oxford. It is understood that Julia was Claud's housekeeper prior to their wedding.13,1 Claud died on 31 October 1950 in 201 Herefield Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex, England, aged 67.14,1,15 Administration papers were issued with a will on 16 July 1985 in Oxford. His effects were valued at £2,900. I guess there may have been some problems with his estate as it proved in Oxford thirty five years after his death. Amazing!15 Claud is remembered as a quiet reticent man, said to have made many losses with his love of gambling. He retired to Weston on the Green, Oxfordshire, into lodgings with the Post Mistress. He was said to have a split personality. He appears to have moved to Uxbridge with his wife before he died.1
