On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Thomas William Greathead was listed as living at 17 Halifax Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with his parents.4 Tom did national service 1953-55.5 He married Marjorie Hawes, daughter of James Hawes, on 22 October 1955 in St Margaret, Aldham, Essex, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by G F Greathead and F Greathead, Thomas's parents. Thomas was an engineer and gave his address as 95 Cambridge Road, Great Shalford in Cambridgeshire. His father Frank was an electrical engineer. Marjorie gave her address as The Pippins, Atcham in Essex, her father James was deceased.1,6 In 2002 electoral list Thomas was listed as living at Lancing Church Road, Ramsden Bellhouse, Essex, England, with his wife Marjorie until 2008 when Thomas died. Marjorie contured to be listed until 2013.7 He was a Chartered Engineer. Thomas died on 16 February 2008 in Lancing Church Road, Ramsden Bellhouse, Essex, England, aged 76.8,9,10 The will of Thomas was proved on 27 June 2008 in Ipswich to his wife Marjorie and Roger John Gurney Madgett.9

     Charles Thomas Greathead was born on 14 August 1862 in Sunderland, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of John Greathead and Jane Bailes. In the census of 2 April 1871 in 42 Robinson Terrace, Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of John Greathead Charles was a scholar.3 He married Letitia Caroline Greenwood, daughter of Thomas George Greenwood and Letitia Caver, on 12 April 1890 in St Pancras, London, England.1,4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Locktoo Road, Spondon, Derbyshire, England, he was listed as a boarder of Walter Stewer. Charles was a decorator.5 Charles and Letitia baptised all their four children together on 23 August 1897 at St Thomas, Finsbury Park. Their home address was 143 St Thomas Road, Finsbury Park and Charles was listed as a decorator.6 Charles died on 9 March 1900 in Hackney, London, England, aged 37 It is believed that he died whilst painting a mural on the ceiling of the Brompton Oratory. His family apparently disowned him as they were unhappy him being a painter.1,7,8 Charles was buried on 14 March 1900 in Islington Cemetery, Islington, London, England, his home address was given as 12 Hermitage Road, Stoke Newington.9

     Letitia Caroline Greenwood was born in 1865 in Islington, London, England.2,3 She was the daughter of Thomas George Greenwood and Letitia Caver.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in 28 Pratt Street, Camden Town, London, England, she was listed as the daughter of Thomas George Greenwood Letitia was a dressmaker.5 One of Letitia's brothers emigrated to Australia.6 She married Charles Thomas Greathead, son of John Greathead and Jane Bailes, on 12 April 1890 in St Pancras, London, England.1,7 Charles and Letitia baptised all their four children together on 23 August 1897 at St Thomas, Finsbury Park.      Charles Thomas Greathead was born on 1 November 1894 in Islington, London, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Charles Thomas Greathead and Letitia Caroline Greenwood.4 He was baptised on 23 August 1897 in St Thomas, Finsbury Park, London, England, He was baptised along with his sisters Ethel, Norah and Maud. Their home address was 143 St Thomas Road, Finsbury Park and his father was listed as a decorator.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 12 Hermitage Road, Stoke Newington, London, England, he was listed as the son of Letitia Caroline Greathead.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 50 Sydney Road, Hornsey, Edmonton, London, England, he was listed as the son of Letitia Caroline Greathead Charles was an assitant hosier.6 Charles signed up on 16 May 1916 for short service and gave his address as 84 Hampden Road, Hornsay. He was approved for the Royal Horse Artillary and was aged 21 years 4 months. His height was listed as 5 foot 9 inches tall with a chest measurement of 35 inches and no distinctive marks. His occupation was given a a hosier assistant. Gunner 140097 Greathead went to France on 13 October 1916 until 28 December 1916 and was demobilised on 28 January 1919.7 He married Emily Mary Robinson, daughter of John Robinson and Henrietta Ellen Monger, on 22 October 1922 in Tufnell Park, London, England.1,8 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Charles was listed as living at 98 Upsdell Avenue, Southgate, London, England, with his wife Emily. And their two children Daphne and John. Charles was a Gentlemans outfitter.9 In the London Gazette of 5 March 1943 under the heading of The Liabilities (War -Time Adjustment) Act 1941, Adjustment Orders No 52 there appears the following:
Messrs Greathead and Little, proprietors A W Little and C T Greathead, 32 Green Lane, Palmers Green N13 Hosiers. Charles Thomas Greathead resided at 98 Upsdell Avenue, Palmers Green N 13 and Arthur Walter Little resided at 114 Upsdell Avenue Palmers Green N13. The date of the order was 11 February 1943 in Edmonton Court. Charles and Arthur were brothers in law. An order of discharge dated 17 May 1945 appeared in the London Gazette on 8 June 1945.10 Charles died on 14 April 1964 in 98 Upsdell Avenue, Wood Green, London, England, aged 69.1,11,12 The will of Charles was proved on 17 June 1964 at London to John his son, who was a bank official. His effects were valued at £4920.12

Michael Greathead
     Michael Greathead was born on 13 February 1943 in Arley, Warwickshire, England.1,2,3 He was the son of Frank Greathead and Gladys Mary Thompson. He married Pamela Ann Brown on 15 August 1965 in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, England.1,4,3 In 1979 the family moved up to Blackpool where Michael became at first a Hotelier - owner of The Lantern Private Hotel on Blundell Street (since demolished) - then later, in 1985, the proprietor of a Fish and Chip Shop in Fleetwood, which business he and Pamela carried on until 2002 when they retired and moved into a bungalow just a few streets away near the sea front.3

Michael died on 27 August 2021 in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England, aged 78 He was dearly missed by all his family, particularly his wife Pamela, their two daughters Karen and Nicola and four grandchildren.3,5

     Reuben Raggett was baptised on 17 September 1826 in St James, Elstead, Surrey, England, his father James was a labourer.2,1,3 He was the son of James Raggett and Elizabeth Callingham.1 Reuben was brought before the County Assises on 23 March 1839 and found guilty. He was imprisoned for 6 weeks for larceny.4 He married Mary Nash on 29 July 1848 in St James, Elstead, Surrey, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by William Nash and Harriet Nash.
