     Sarah Penrose Fitzgerald was born on 29 January 1935.1,2 She married Peter Maurice Hamilton-Ely, son of Maurice Hibbert Ely and Dora Anne Tanner, in 1971 This was Peter's second marriage.1 Sarah died in June 2003 in Taunton, Somerset, England, aged 68.3

Gilbert Charles Frederick Ely1

     Gilbert Charles Frederick Ely was born in 1900 in Scarborough, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Ely and Mary Margaret Emily Hibbert. In the census of 31 March 1901 in 21 West Parade Mews, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Ely.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 2 Princess Royal Terrace, Scarborough, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Ely Gilbert was at school.4 He married Violet Henrietta Soady, daughter of Sidney John Soady and Emily Maude Cross, on 16 January 1929 in St Mary, Elloughton, Yorkshire, England, Gilbert was a Flying Officer RAFO but employed as Publicity Manager for the Blackburn Aeroplane and Motor Company.5,6,7 He was in the RAF - Flying Officer 70204.5 He died on 6 March 1940 on final approach to Brize Norton, his Oxford L4554 at 03.00 hrs crashed at Lower Farm after hiting tree tops and crashing into a wooded area. Both crew were injured, and gIlbert died shortly afterwards. The aircraft was destroyed. Gilbert was described as son of Thomas and Margaret Ely; husband of Violet Henrietta Ely; of North Ferriby by the Commonwealth Grave Commission.1,5,8,9,10 Administration papers were issued with a will on 30 May 1940 in Yorkshire to his widow Violet. His usual address was given as 5 East Mount, North Ferriby and his estate was valued at £829 16s2d.10 Gilbert was buried in St Mary, Elloughton Churchyard, Row 3. Grave 9, Elloughton, Yorkshire, England.5

     Violet Henrietta Soady was born on 20 February 1894 in Beverley, Yorkshire, England.3,4 She was the daughter of Sidney John Soady and Emily Maude Cross.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in St Nicholas Vicarage, South Newbald, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of Sidney John Soady.6 She married Gilbert Charles Frederick Ely, son of Thomas Ely and Mary Margaret Emily Hibbert, on 16 January 1929 in St Mary, Elloughton, Yorkshire, England, Gilbert was a Flying Officer RAFO but employed as Publicity Manager for the Blackburn Aeroplane and Motor Company.2,7,5 Her husband Gilbert died on 6 March 1940 in Lower Farm, near Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, England, on final approach to Brize Norton, his Oxford L4554 at 03.00 hrs crashed at Lower Farm after hiting tree tops and crashing into a wooded area. His effects were valued at £7696 12s 9d.10 Violet died in 1984 in Beverley, Yorkshire, England.1,11
