Gertrude Alice Pull1

#4276, b. 15 January 1880, d. 1945
Last Edited=29 Oct 2022
Gertrude Alice Pull was born on 15 January 1880 in Aylsham, Norfolk, England.2 She was the daughter of John Thomas Pull and Mary Ann Cory. She was baptised on 6 February 1880 in Parish Church, Aylsham, Norfolk, England.3 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, she was listed as the daughter of John Thomas Pull.4 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Dunkirk, Aylsham, Norfolk, England, she was listed as the daughter of John Thomas Pull Gertrude is a scholar.5 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 2 Dawsons Cottages, West Lane, Chester le Street, Durham, England, she was listed as the niece of Thomas and Sarah Brighton who were born in Wyondham, Norfolk. Thomas worked as a Colliery Cartman. Amazingly Gertrude has been written incorrectly in the enumeration book. She is listed as Gertrude Green. The mistake has arisen I believe as the widow who is enumerated next is Mary A Green. My guess is this book was written later from notes, as so many were, hence the error. I am sure this is the correct Gertrude, she is described as single and of course Chester le Street is where she met and married George.6 She married George William Greathead, son of George Greathead and Mary Ann Moses, on 18 April 1903 in St Patricks Parish Church, Winlaton, Gateshead, Durham, England, afer the banns were read. The ceremony was witnessed by Matthew Pull and Miriam Pull. George was a miner aged 25 and Alice aged 23. Both of them gave their address as High Spen.7 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 94 Queen Street, Grange Villa, Chester le Street, Durham, England, she was listed as the wife of George William Greathead.8 In the census of 19 June 1921 in 4 Stoney Lane, Beamish, Urpeth, Durham, England, she was listed as the wife of George William Greathead.9 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Gertrude was listed as living at 63 West Street, Chester le Street, Durham, England, with her husband George. And presumably three of their children (still closed records.)10 Gertrude died in 1945 in Durham, England.1,11
