     It is thought that this branch of the family came over in 1800's some of the family believe it was on the prison ships, I do not.1 Robert Newton Greathead was born on 6 November 1898 in Staunton City, Augusta, Virginia, USA, The courthouse burned down and all the records lost, but date located on his draft registration cards.1,2 He was the son of Robert Newton Greathead and Mary R Robinson. In the census of 1 June 1900 in Staunton City, Virginia, USA, he was listed as the son of Robert Newton Greathead.3 In the census of 20 April 1910 in Virginia, USA, he was listed as the son of Robert Newton Greathead.4 Robert was described on his WW1 registration card dated 7 September 1918 as tall in height, medium build, grey eyes and brown hair. His father was listed as his next of kin.5 In the census of 5 January 1920 in 34th Street, King, Seattle, Washington, USA, he was listed as the son of Robert Newton Greathead.6 He married Edith Muldrum Rutherfoord, daughter of James Thomas Rutherfoord and Edith Ellett Jones, on 2 March 1935 in Grace and Holy Trinity Church, Richmond, Virginia, USA, following the ceremony a reception was held at the John Marshall hotel.1,7 He was a Chemical Engineering with a degree from Virginia Military Institute. He came out a Lt. in the Marines, and re-upped for WWII. The Marines wouldn't take him (too old), but the Army Air Corps did-apparently one of the oldest 2nd Lt's in the War! He flew the Channel taking pictures from the air for the Army. A VMI classmate (Virginia Military Institute, 1921) got him assigned to Military Intelligence at the Pentagon, so the family moved to the Washington, DC area (Arlington, VA) for the duration of WWII, and then returned to Richmond, VA. He was promoted to Capt, Major and finally Lt. Colonel.1 Robert was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 1 April 1940 in 1111 West Avenue, Richmond, Richmond City, Virginia, USA, Robert was living with his wife and two small sons and a nurse. Robert was listed as a special agent in fire insurance.8 Robert suffered from Stomach cancer in 1947 and had 2/3 of his stomach removed.1 Robert died on 27 January 1961 in Richmond, Virginia, USA, aged 62 from a cerebral vascular accident.1 Robert was buried on 30 January 1961 in Hollywood Cemetery, 412 South Cherry Street, Richmond, Virginia, USA, Section 30 Lot 58-N1/2.1

In the census of 1 April 1940 in 1111 West Avenue, Richmond, Richmond City, Virginia, USA, he was listed as the son of Robert Newton Greathead.2 He was a Civil Engineering with a degree from Virginia Military Institute and was employed on Californian Highways in early 1960's. He married Reba Louise Wedel on 13 March 1965 in Los Angeles, California, USA.1,3 James celebrated his 80th birthday with a family dinner.4 James died on 24 December 2022 in Colorado, Kansas, USA, aged 84 he had been fighting off pneumonia for a whilw but had a COPD flair up and A-fib attack. Fortunately his daughters and their families were able to spend some time with him in hospital he was aparently in good spirits telling jokes and stories, before he told them to go home so he 'could go to sleep and not wake up' his words!! A very sad but lovely end.4
