Peter Whitelock was baptised on 29 May 1738 in Downholme, Yorkshire, England.2 He was the son of Christopher Whitelock and Catherine Ellerton.2 He married Sarah Whitelock, daughter of Matthew Whitelock and Ruth Ellerton, on 6 April 1767 in Hipswell, Yorkshire, England.1 Peter died on 1 October 1778 in Thorp House, Downholme, Yorkshire, England, aged 40 from an inflamed throat. This is believed to be scaletina or scarlet fever of which there were epidemics in 1778 and 1788.2,3 Peter was buried on 29 January 1779 in St Michael and All Angels, Downholme, Yorkshire, England.4,2,3 Peter did not leave a will. Administration papers were issued on 31 May 1779 to his widow Sarah. Peter was described as a Yeoman and late of Thorpe in the Chapelry of Hudswell.2 The table tomb states that Peter and Sarah were buried together with their daughter Sarah.2
