     Elenore Hutchinson was born in 1926 in Reeth, Yorkshire, England.1 She was the daughter of William Moralee Hutchinson and Rhoda Maggie Hind. Elenore attended Arkengarthdale Primary School and then The Friends School at Great Aytom Boarding School through money left by her grandparents, Nellie and Thomas Hind. Elenore was known for caring for other girls who were upset and home sick.2 Elenore qualified as a nurse in 1947, the same year that the NHS was formed, and after some time as a staff nurse she trained in midwifery, then working predominatly in the NE working in hospitals in Middlesbrough, Darlington and Newcastle where the job often involved visiting homes on foot to deliver babies.2 She married James Alderson in December 1955 in Arkengarthdale Methodist chapel, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, after getting engaged in the previous September. They went to live in James newly acquired home ‘Hope House’ where they farmed until their deaths.3,2 Elenore returned home when her mother Rhoda fell ill and this is when she met James whom she would have heard preach in Arkendale.2 Her husband James died on March 2004 in Yorkshire, England, aged 81.4,2 Elenore died on 13 January 2019 in Yorkshire, England, Elenore’s interests included her family, chapel baking and entertaining.2

James Alderson

     James Alderson was born on 21 April 1922 in Yorkshire, England. On 29 September 1939 in the National Register James Alderson was listed as living at Stone House Farm, Reeth, Yorkshire, England, with his parents James (born 18.7.1877) and M Eleanor (born 28.1.1888) Alderson and his siblings Amelia (born 13.8.1911) and Isabel (born 1.11.1916). His father was a sheep and cattle farmer, James was listed as assisting him.1 He married Elenore Hutchinson, daughter of William Moralee Hutchinson and Rhoda Maggie Hind, in December 1955 in Arkengarthdale Methodist chapel, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, after getting engaged in the previous September. They went to live in James newly acquired home ‘Hope House’ where they farmed until their deaths.2,3 James died in March 2004 in Yorkshire, England, aged 81.4,3
