He married Eva Thelma Cuming on 24 August 1938 in Methodist Church, Marton, New Zealand, Eva was Gordon's first wife.2,4 Gordon was a fitter and turner in 20 January 1942 in 6 Trafalgar Street, Timaru, Canterbury, New Zealand, when he was called up to fight in WW2.5 He was a Company Director.6 His wife Eva died on 21 June 1979 in Feilding, New Zealand, aged 63.2,7 He married Moira Grace Casey on 1 March 1980 in Knox Church, Feilding, New Zealand.2,4,6,8 Gordon died on 7 May 1997 in Public Hospital, Palmerston North, New Zealand, aged 82 his death appeared in the Manawatu S newspaper of 7 and 8 May 1997. His address ahd been 5 Montgomery Street, Feilding.2,9,10,1 Gordon was buried on 23 June 1997 in Manawatu Cemetery, Feilding, New Zealand, Gorden's ashes were buried with his wife in Sub block 2 Row B Plot No 20 Interment ID 3985.11

His address ahd been 5 Montgomery Street, Feilding.2,7,8,1 Moira died on 16 March 2012 in Ranfurly Manor, Feilding, New Zealand, aged 88 her death notice appeared in the Dominion Post of 19 March 2012.3,9 Moira was buried on 21 March 2012 in Feilding Cemetery, Feilding, New Zealand, following a celebration of her life at Knox Presbyterian Church, corner Kimbolton Road and North Street, Feilding. Harold was a clerk in 6 November 1940 and 7 May 1941 in 11 Horoeka Avenue, Mount Eden, Wellington, New Zealand, when he was called up to fight in WW2.4 He married Jeanne Claire Kennedy on 6 April 1942 in Lower Hutt, Wellington, Masterton, New Zealand, 1st husband.2,5 Harold died on 8 May 1982 in 39 Brunswick Street, Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand, aged 65.2,6 Funeral service was held at Hutt Methodists church.

Owen Greathead
     Owen Charles Greathead was born on 6 June 1919 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.2,3,4 He was the son of Leonard Bright Greathead and Annie Haigh. Leonard and Annie and their children had a rather nice photograph taken. My guess is it must have been taken around mid to late 1920s as little Earle as born in 1921 and is seated in the middle of the picture. Standing: Rita, Mervyn, Annie, Gordon, Beatrice, Leonard and Evelyn and Sitting: Harold, Earle and Owen.5 Owen was a grocers assistant in 4 March 1941 106 Manchester Street, Feilding, New Zealand, when he was called up to fight in WW2.6 He married Rita Maxwell Lean on 13 January 1945 in St Marks Methodist Church, Feilding, New Zealand.7,3 He was a Grocer.3 Evelyn, Oliver, Owen, Earle, Jeanne, Estelle, Rita and Beatrice attended the funeral of Mervyn John Greathead on 17 May 1987.8 Owen died in 2006.9

Earle was an exchange clerk in 6 November 1940 in Newman Road, Eketahuna, Auckland, New Zealand, when he was called up to fight in WW2.4 He married Betty Lloma McNeil on 2 November 1946 in St Andrews Presbyterian Church, Auckland, New Zealand.2,5 He was a Post Master.5 His wife Betty died on 17 February 1980 in Waikumete, Auckland, New Zealand, aged 54.2,5,6,7,8 He married Estelle Marie McAuley on 4 April 1985 in Auckland, New Zealand.2,9 Evelyn, Oliver, Owen, Earle, Jeanne, Estelle, Rita and Beatrice attended the funeral of Mervyn John Greathead on 17 May 1987.10 Earle died on 23 July 2009 in Auckland City Hospital, Waikumete, Auckland, New Zealand, aged 88.11,12 Earle was buried on 28 July 2009 in Waikumete Cemetery, Waikumete, Auckland, New Zealand, after a service held in Titirangi Memorial RSA Clubrooms, South Titirangi Road, Titirangi.12

     Estelle Marie Moor was born on 7 July 1922.3 She married Laurie McAuley They had four children David, Robert, Shannon and Donna.2 Her husband Laurie died on an unknown date.4 She married Earle Joseph Greathead, son of Leonard Bright Greathead and Annie Haigh, on 4 April 1985 in Auckland, New Zealand.1,5 Evelyn, Oliver, Owen, Earle, Jeanne, Estelle, Rita and Beatrice attended the funeral of Mervyn John Greathead on 17 May 1987.6 Her husband Earle died on 23 July 2009 in Auckland City Hospital, Waikumete, Auckland, New Zealand, aged 88.7,2 Estelle died on 11 November 2012 aged 90 The New Zealand Herald wrote: GREATHEAD, Marie (Estelle) (formerly McAuley). 7 July 1922 - 11 November 2012 Passed away peacefully in her 91st year. Loved wife of the late Earle and the late Laurie. Mother of David, Bob, Shannon and Donna. Grandmother of Laura, James, Sarah, Robert, Alex, Andrew, Antonia and Caitlin. Great grandmother to Jason, Joshua, Naomi and Nadia. Mother-in-law to Karen, Phil and Mark. Grand mother-in- law to George. Special thanks to nurse Joseph at Aria Rest Home, Epsom, Auckland. A service for Marie will be held at Battersby Funeral Services, 1855 Gt North Road, Avondale on Friday 16 November at 10.30am. A very special lady, cherished by all who knew her. Loved her "music, dance, the Warriors, racehorses and having fun." May she rest in peace. She will be loved always.4

     Louisa Bright was born on 13 February 1844 in Norton Mandeville, Essex, England.2,3 She was the daughter of Richard Bright and Jane Franklyn. In the census of 30 March 1851 at Norton Heath, Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, she was listed as the daughter of Richard Bright Louisa was a scholar.4 She emigrated with Richard Bright and Jane Bright on 5 November 1856 in London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. " She married William Jones in 1861 in Greytown, New Zealand.5 Her husband William died on October 1869.5 She married Fred Skipper Adams on 8 January 1875 in Baptist Church, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.5 Louisa was living in Australia in 1888 as her mother Jane wrote her a letter on 19 July that year giving lots of news about the family. Her mother was living in Martinborough at the time.6 Louisa died on 25 July 1934 in Brightside Sanatorium, Waverley Road, East Malvern, Prahran, Victoria, Australia, aged 90 from senile decay and syncope.7,8 Louisa was buried on 26 July 1934 in The Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Victoria, Australia.7,8

     Richard Bright was born on 7 June 1850 in Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, Richard was a twin to Jane.2,3 He was the son of Richard Bright and Jane Franklyn. In the census of 30 March 1851 at Norton Heath, Norton Mandeville, Essex, England, he was listed as the son of Richard Bright.4 He emigrated with Richard Bright and Jane Bright on 5 November 1856 in London, England, arriving in Wellington on 30 Jan 1857 on the ship "Indian Queen. " He married Louisa Ticehurst, daughter of Edwin Ticehurst and Maria Pocock, on 21 November 1872 in St Lukes, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, at a double wedding with his sister Mary by Rev A Knell.5 Richard died on 22 February 1905 aged 54.

Louisa Bright née Ticehurst
     Louisa Ticehurst was the daughter of Edwin Ticehurst and Maria Pocock. The Ticehurst family moved from Wellington to Greytown in the late 1850's early 1860's.2 She married Richard Bright, son of Richard Bright and Jane Franklyn, on 21 November 1872 in St Lukes, Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, at a double wedding with his sister Mary by Rev A Knell.3

Chart 1 My Direct Family - Edward Greathead
     Robert George Greathead was born on 10 May 1869 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Robert Greathead and Emma Bright. The West Australian newspaper of Tuesday, March 9, 1886, reported on page 3, that Mr Robert Greathead had brought an action in the Supreme Court on February 19, 1886, suing Mr. M. H. Mortimer Franklyn for damages for the publication of a libel in the Federal Australian newspaper. The libel complained of was a paragraph that appeared in the defendant’s newspaper on the 10 October last, it stated:-Mr. Laurens had a client in hand, Mr. Greathead, who claimed a big bonus from the Government on the ground of his having discovered a specific for diphtheria.6 Robert died on 7 December 1937 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 68.2,4,7,8 Robert was buried on 8 December 1937 in Acher Street Cemetery, Masterton, Wellington, New Zealand, Robert was buried in an area known as Plan VIII Row RGG Plot10.4,9,1

Ernest Frederick Greathead
     Ernest Frederick Greathead was born on 8 April 1871 in Greytown, Wairarapa, New Zealand.2,3,4,5 He was the son of Robert Greathead and Emma Bright. In the 1893 New Zealand electoral listing for Wairarapa. Ernest was resident in Ahiaruhe and gave his occupation as a labourer.6,7 He married Mary Toms on 24 May 1898 in New Zealand.4,8 He was In 1901 Ernest was assistant at the Dalefield Dairy Factory was appointed to the factory in course of erection at Parkvale. His duties commenced with the new season in 1901.9,10 Adultery was the grounds of the application of Mary Greathead for dissolution of marriage with Ernest Frederick Greathead. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the petitioner. The evidence of the petitioner was that the marriage took place in 1898 and they had lived at Otaki until her husband went away and lived with the Maoris. She found, her husband living in a house in Millroad, Otaki, with a Native woman. She had custody of the children. His Honour granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months, with costs against the respondent, the petitioner to have custody of the children.11
Ernest died on 17 November 1962 in Wairarapa, New Zealand, aged 91.2,4

Mary Greathead née Toms
     Mary Toms was born on 30 June 1879 in Dalefield, New Zealand.2 She married Ernest Frederick Greathead, son of Robert Greathead and Emma Bright, on 24 May 1898 in New Zealand.2,3 Adultery was the grounds of the application of Mary Greathead for dissolution of marriage with Ernest Frederick Greathead. Mr. H. F. O'Leary appeared for the petitioner. The evidence of the petitioner was that the marriage took place in 1898 and they had lived at Otaki until her husband went away and lived with the Maoris. She found, her husband living in a house in Millroad, Otaki, with a Native woman. She had custody of the children. His Honour granted a decree nisi, to be made absolute in three months, with costs against the respondent, the petitioner to have custody of the children.4
Police had raided certain premises in Auckland and found a letter bearing the address of a house in Kent Terrace, Wellington. Mary and two of her sons Ernest and Leslie appeared in the Magistrates Court before Mr F Stilwell on 2 July 1934 as a result of the successful opium search made by the Customs officers and detectives. Mary was charged with unlawfully in possession of prepared opium and with permitting premises in Kent Terrace to be used for the storage and concealment of opium. Leslie was a baker and ship's cook was charged with being unlawfully in possession of prepared opium and with importing prepared opium. Ernest was a labourer and was charged with being unlawfully in possession of an automatic pistol and ten rounds of ammunition. All three were remanded to appear the following day. Mary and Leslie were each fined £100 and Ernest was fined £5. The opium worth £660 and the pistol with 29 rounds of ammunition were forfeited. The family later appealed but this was dismissed.5 Mary died on 16 November 1962 in Otaki, New Zealand, aged 83.2,6,7 Her body was cremated on 19 November 1962 in Karori Crematorium, Karori, Wellington, New Zealand.1
