     Thomas Garbutt was born about 1846 in Maunby, Yorkshire, England.1 He married Martha Watson, daughter of James Watson and Martha Shaw, in 1867 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.1,2 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1871 in Brunswick Street, Stranton, West Hartlepool, Durham, England, Thomas was a Marine Store dealer living with his wife and son.3 Thomas was listed as the head of the family on the census of 5 April 1891 in 16 Sunniside, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Thomas was a Manager of a Marine store living with his children.4 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 8 Friar Terrace, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Thomas was a Marine Store Manager living with his wife and children.5 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 36 Corporation Road, Hartlepool, Durham, England, Thomas was a General dealer living with his wife and daughter in their five roomed home.
