     Under the will of Dame Katheryn Borowe of Howley Hall in Batley, made on 3 October 1546 Katheryn was listed as a god child along with Robert Sowden to receive vjs viijd.. The will was witnessed by William Scoles the curate, John Trynsmer the minister and Will Crowther proved on 28 February 1546

     John Greathead was the son of ... Greathead.1 He married Isabel ...1 In the will of John Greathead who lived in the Parish of Batley dated 1 January 1595 he asked that his wife Isabel be his Executrix and among other nequests he hasked that his lands in Pontefract be given to his nephew Thomas Bury and from the rents of these lands he give his mother Alice Bury, John's sister 26 shillings 8 pence per year during her life. He also gives his terms of lease to Alice and her son of a tenament at Woodkirke. Much of furniture is to remain at his house Scolecroft as heir looms and his wife to have use of them during her lifetime.1 John died in Batley, Yorkshire, England.1 John was buried in Batley Church, Batley, Yorkshire, England.1 John's will was proved on 26 March 1596 to his wife Isabel.1

     Alice Greathead was the daughter of ... Greathead.1 She married ... Bury.1 Alice's son Thomas received a bequest from his uncle John Greathead when his will was proved on 26 March 1596 of lands in Pontefract.      Thomas Bury was the son of ... Bury and Alice Greathead.1 Thomas received a bequest from his uncle John Greathead when his will was proved on 26 March 1596 of lands in Pontefract.      Johis was a member of a jury (36 men) convened at Wakefield to give an account of the properties which made up Batley Manor. Queen Elizabeth had commissioned an inquiry into the assets of the Duchy of Lancaster, and this Manor seems to have been among them, and it was held by a family called Copley.1,2

     Susannah Appleyard was born about 1652.1 She married Samuel Greatheed, son of Joshua Greatheed and Susannah Crowther, on 7 June 1682 in Batley Parish Church, Batley, Yorkshire, England.1,2 Susannah died on 21 October 1741 in Batley, Yorkshire, England.1 Susannah was buried in Batley, Yorkshire, England.1

Nathaniel Merriman1

     Nathaniel Merriman was born in 1660.1 He was the son of John Merriman.1 He married Mary Hunt, daughter of Thomas Hunt, on 14 June 1688 in Mildenhall, Wiltshire, England, Nathaniel was a grocer. Nathaniel and Mary appear to have had twelve children, Henry (d 1708), Benjamin, unknown, Martha, Ann (d 1709), Margaret (d May 1712), Mary who married Thomas Morgan, Elizabeth who married Nathaniel Potticary, Sarah who married Thomas Spackman, unknown, Nathaniel who married Elizabeth Baverstock and Ann.1 He married Ann Hunt on 21 June 1730 in Preshute, Wiltshire, England.1 His wife Ann died on 1738.1 Nathaniel died in 1742 in St Peter's, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England, he had written his will on 7 December 1741.1
