William Frederick Manvell was born about 1795.1 He married Elizabeth Ann Greathead, daughter of Robert Greathead and Mary ..., on 10 May 1821 in St Marylebone, Westminster, London, England, after the banns had beed read 11, 18 and 25 February. The ceremony was witnessed by Elizabeth Francis and Thomas Chatham.2,1 He married Hester Betty on 11 May 1839 in St George, Hanover Square, London, England.1,3 William appeared at the Old Bailey on 5 April 1851 accused of bigamy, having married Hester Betty knowing his first wife Elizabeth was still alive. He was arrested by Joseph Shackell an Inspector of the Metropolitan Police on 12 March in Jermyn Street. William Tookey the deputy clerk of St Marylebone, Robert Pickering a porter who lived in Perry Street, Somerstown, Henry Holt who lived in Bologne and Louisa Bryan, widow and mother of Hester Betty and lived in Cadogen Street all appeared as witnesses against William. William aged 62 was found guilty and confined for six months.1
