William Arthur Smurthwaite was born in 1896 in Coatham, Yorkshire, England.1,2 He was the son of William Smurthwaite and Phoebe Palmer Knaggs.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 21 Newcome Street, Coatham, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Smurthwaite.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 21 Newcome Street, Coatham, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Smurthwaite William was at school.4 William died in 1960 in Sunderland, Durham, England.5

Lilian Smurthwaite was born on 2 July 1898 in Coatham, Yorkshire, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of William Smurthwaite and Phoebe Palmer Knaggs.1 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 21 Newcome Street, Coatham, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Smurthwaite.4 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 21 Newcome Street, Coatham, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Smurthwaite she was at school.5 The will of William Smurthwaite was proved by Lilian Smurthwaite his daughter Lilian on 18 April 1940 with her sister Bertha and Arthur Pickering.6 Lilian died in 1973 in Teeside, Durham, England.7

Bertha Smurthwaite was born on 9 September 1901 in Coatham, Yorkshire, England.1,2,3 She was the daughter of William Smurthwaite and Phoebe Palmer Knaggs.1 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 21 Newcome Street, Coatham, Yorkshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Smurthwaite she was at school.4 The will of William Smurthwaite was proved by Bertha Smurthwaite his daughter Bertha on 18 April 1940 with her sister Lilian and Arthur Pickering.5 Bertha died in February 1986 in Yorkshire, England, aged 84.6
