     John Waite was born about 1833 in Romaldkirk, Durham, England.1 He married Catherine Benson, daughter of Thomas Benson and Mary ..., in 1858 in Stockton on Tees, Durham, England.2 John was listed as the head of the family on the census of 7 April 1861 in Lynn Street South, Hartlepool, Durham, England, John was a grocer living with his wife and young children, with one servant.3 John was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in Star Hotel, Lynn Street, Hartlepool, Durham, England, John was hotel keeper living with his wife and daughters who worked in the htel. There were three visitors, the Shiel family staying in the hotel.4 John died in 1885 in Hartlepool, Durham, England.5

     Thomas Benson was born on 27 August 1890 in West Cornforth, Durham, England.1,2,3 He was the son of John Thomas Benson and Margaret Jane Simpson.1 In the census of 5 April 1891 in Newbiggin, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of John Thomas Benson.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 3 Bridge Street, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the grandson of Thomas Benson.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 21 Frenchgate, Richmond, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the grandson of Jane Benson.6 He married Christiana H Higgins on 21 September 1935 in St Augustine's, Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England, Thomas was listed as a Stores Manager living at 11 Gordon Avenue, Waterloo Street, Hull. Christiana lived at 1 The Poplars, Ella Street, Hull.7,3 Thomas died on 25 December 1937 in The Italian Hospital, Amman, Jordan, aged 47 Thomas was working abroad as a civilian, attached to RAF Amman. Sadly he died before his daughter Patricia was born.3
