     Thomas Littley was born in 1844 in Coseley, Staffordshire, England.1,2 He married Sarah Edwards in 1871 in Dudley, Staffordshire, England.3 Thomas was listed as the head of the family on the census of 3 April 1881 in 12 Iron Works Row, Tudhoe, Durham, England, Thomas was a puddler living with his wife and children, little Thirza was just 6 months old. They had two lodgers, both puddlers, John Wilde and John Law.4 Thomas was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Bessemer Terrace, Tudhoe, Durham, England, Thomas was living with his wife and five children, he working was a puddler at the ironworks.5 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 31 March 1901 in 14 Marmaduke Street, Tudhoe, Durham, England, Thomas was an ironworks labourer living with his wife and two sons. They had a boarder Robert Dowson who was a wine and spirit cartman.6 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 12 Marmaduke Street, Tudhoe, Durham, England, Thomas was a puddler in the iron works living with his wife, son Joseph, relative Charles Littley, a boarder and a general servant. Thomas a Sarah had 13 children 8 of which had died before 1911.7 His wife Sarah died on 1913 in Durham, England.8 Thomas died in 1916 in Sedgefield, Durham, England.9 After Joseph's death his father Thomas received £2 14s 4d war gratuity on 17 March 1916 and his sister Edith received a further £4 10s on 23 October 1919.10

In the census of 3 April 1881 in 12 Iron Works Row, Tudhoe, Durham, England, she was listed as the daughter of Thomas Littley.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Bessemer Terrace, Tudhoe, Durham, England, she was listed as the daughter of Thomas Littley.4 She married Rhys Irvin in 1897 in Durham, England.5 Her husband Rhys died on 1900 in Durham, England.6 She married George Jermy in 1902 in Durham, England.7 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 16 Pearson Street, Half Moon Lane, Spennymoor, Durham, England, she was listed as the wife of George Jermy.8 After Joseph's death his father Thomas received £2 14s 4d war gratuity on 17 March 1916 and his sister Edith received a further £4 10s on 23 October 1919.9 Edith died in 1949 in Durham, England.10

Joseph Littley

     Joseph Littley was born in 1876 in Spennymoor, Durham, England.1,2 He was the son of Thomas Littley and Sarah Edwards. In the census of 3 April 1881 in 12 Iron Works Row, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley.3 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Bessemer Terrace, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Joseph was a labourer at the ironworks.4 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 14 Marmaduke Street, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Joseph was an ironworks labourer.5 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 12 Marmaduke Street, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Joseph was a bricklayers labourer.6 Joseph enlisted on 29 October 1914 at Spennymoor as Private 14041 into the East Yorkshire Regiment. He was posted to France on 20 December 1915. He was described as being 5 foot 9 inches tall, with a chest measurement of 35 inches and weighed 196lbs, a fresh complexion, blue eyes and dark hair turning grey.7 Joseph died on 17 January 1916 in France Private Joseph Littley died 7:45pm in hospital from wounds received in the field on 13 January 1916 whilst serving with East Yorkshire Regiment.8 Joseph was buried in Etaples Military Cemetery, Department du Pas-de-Calais, Nord-Pas-de-Calais, France.8 After Joseph's death his father Thomas received £2 14s 4d war gratuity on 17 March 1916 and his sister Edith received a further £4 10s on 23 October 1919.9

In the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Bessemer Terrace, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Thomas was a scholar.3 In the census of 31 March 1901 in 14 Marmaduke Street, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Thomas was a bottler in the wine and spirit stores.4 He married Frances Amelia Basham in 1905 in Durham, England.5 Thomas was listed as head of household in the census of 2 April 1911 in 3 Back Durham Street, Middlestone, Durham, England, Thomas was a colliery labourer living with his wife and two children.6 Thomas died in 1920 in Auckland, Durham, England.7

In the census of 5 April 1891 in 12 Bessemer Terrace, Tudhoe, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of Thomas Littley Benjamin was a scholar.3 In the census of 2 April 1911 in 16 Pearson Street, Half Moon Lane, Spennymoor, Durham, England, he was listed as the boarder of George Jermy Benjamin was George's wife's brother and working as a coke oven labourer.4 He married Caroline Howells Irvin on 12 March 1912 in St Andrews, Spennymoor, Durham, England.5,6 Benjamin enlisted on 21 April 1915 into Duke of Wellington's (West Riding) Regiment as a Private.5 Benjamin died in 1940 in Durham, England.7
