My thoughts go out to
everyone in Queensland suffering terrible floods. Our Greatheads
lived in Bundesburg
Due to timing problems this
update was delayed until late on 1 January, something to do with the time
of the year!!!!
Next year I promise to be a
little more specific with what the updates contain :- )

Apart from the website
problems mainly with broken links (let me know if you find ay please) I
have concentrated on answering your many emails and updating the database
with information I have found while communication with you. So no
huge patterns unless it was in answer to your email. I have added
some photographs kindly sent of a church in Little Haywood, the graveyard
and some special graves related to my "in law" family.
Information from productive
trips to The National Archives in Kew and The London History Centre in
Kensington has also been added
May I wish you a very happy
Christmas

I hope everyone remembered
to turn their clocks back last night!!!
I needed everyone of those
extra minutes to attempt to sort out my website. Please let me know
if you discover any errors, broken links or something that just looks
wrong. I will slowly be working through the site .

Many new photographs have
been kindly sent to me to be included
Much research has been added
about the families of spouses of Greathead ladies. It is surprising
what you can discover by looking at census returns of the "in laws"

After searching the Family
Search Pilot website I discovered that
Joseph
Greated's parents were Timothy and Mary. So Chart 12 now is
headed by Timothy. See Brickwall 12

I have made many new friends
on Facebook and so have a few more pictures. Most of these remain n
my personal database as the people are still living, but it is great to
"see" them Others have contacted me from all parts of the world.
They have given me data and prompted me to investigate more. So
there are quite a few entries in
recent changes
page.
A new page about
William James
Percy Beresford Greatheed has been added to the
interesting
people page
I never fail to be amazed at
how kind people are at sending me information. Long may it continue

Problems uplifting have
delayed the update, my apologies.
Early this year I was
informed I had a won a prize in the December issue of Family History
Monthly. Today (2 July) I received my fantastic prize. I would like
to express my thanks to Ian Trevett from
Relatively Speaking for a
truly magnificent book. I wrote a story about my branch of the
Greathead family and sent many pictures. Ian produced a book beyond
my hopes, his design with the pictures to go with my text was superb.
I cannot recommend him more. I was able to use the data gathered from this
website as the basis of the story
Added data about the wills I
obtained when I went to the London History Centre. All the names
appear on the
wills
list
Visited the London
Metropolitan Archives and made a listing of Births 2007-2010 Q1, Marriages
2006-2008, Deaths 2007-2010 Q1 and my first Greathead Civil Marriage.
The deaths I can identify on the website, much of the other data will
remain on my personal database, as it refers to "living" people
General additions to GRO
index references and Census to many Greatheads and their families.
Some great additions and pictures donated by new "friends"

Many updates this month to
my personal database bringing families up to date. This material
will not appear on the website as the people are still alive.
However being keen to add data about the grandchildren many people have
included details about themselves. Dates and places. Great of
everyone to be so helpful.
More visits to TNA did not
bring any further details about the Greatheads but it did eliminate books
where there may have been information lurking. Still difficult to
sort the data about the many Excise men called Francis Greathead. I
will get there.........
No major new primary sources
discovered this month so only a few additions. See
recent changes
for the full listing.
Added a page for
Greathead Solicitors see also the
Professional Greatheads

Featherstone Greathead's exploits
as an Excise man have been included in the narrative. Also another
page about
Professional Greatheads included. Will attempt to add narratives
for the other Excise men on the website next month.
At last I believe I may have
the answer as to why
Sarah
announced her previous marriage in 1855, it was seven years since her
marriage to
James
Taylor and maybe she declared him dead. I am pursuing any
paperwork that may substantiate this thought.
General additions to GRO
index references and Census to many Greatheads and their families

Many more families have had
their GRO references added. They have had marriages and children
added thanks to exploring the Ancestry records
Sadly despite purchasing
four more death certificates I still cannot find out whether James Taylor
died, or was paid to disappear. Was
Sarah a
bigamist? See Brickwall
I also purchased two other
certificates and confirmed I had made the correct assumptions.

Even more updates and source
references added. Some
photographs
(see Hannah - apologies her maiden name was Greathead - I missed the R and
also her family) and a few queries solved with the help of some very kind
souls. Discovered a possible branch out in Brazil. Not found
anyone there before married into the
Knox
family. Anyone any ideas about this connection?
I widened my research with
more 1911 census entries and several BMD post 1916 now there is better
coverage in Ancestry. I always try to find GRO index, parish record
entry and or census reference to support my dates so if any are missing
and you know the data do tell. I have either failed to find at
present or time has just stopped me from searching.

31 January |
I thought December was a snowy
month, well January beat all records since 1963. So not too much
time was spent researching, rather re-arranging life and activities.
More updates and source
references added.

Happy New Year
May you have a great time looking through
the pages of this website and hopefully finding something of interest.
Let me know if you can add or amend or if you just enjoyed what is there.
Well the year ended and lots of minor
updates, sources added to prove what was previously a guess from a census
record and a bit of tidying up. Snow and Christmas stopped too much
actual research.
