31 December |
Happy New Year, may you have a great time
looking through the pages of this website and hopefully finding something
of interest. Let me know if you can add or amend or if you just
enjoyed what is there. Well the
year ended and lots of minor updates, sources added to prove what was
previously a guess from a census record and a bit of tidying up.
Snow and Christmas stopped too much actual research.
Next update due 31 January 2010 |

- Two visits now to TNA have
given me 21 investigated entries in the Excise Minute books. I have
searched the first 200 microfiche in CUST 47. The total years covered
are 1695 - 1867. There are 699 microfiche in total so I have a way to
go and I am up to 1744. So far I have discovered Greathead entries for
Henry, John, Francis and William.

Much progress has been achieved in
finding some missing families by discovering they had emigrated and
changed their names. See the new listing
page of some of them. Maybe you know more, do tell
With the additional material scanned from
the London Metropolitan Archives and the Guildhall and now available on
Ancestry I have added all the baptisms and burials for known Greathead and
variants but am still wading through the marriages. I will complete
for next months update

More 1911 census data has been added, still
need one more visit. It has been an interesting exercise, and
amazingly I have found all those returns I have received. I have
discovered much new information.
I have been fortunate to receive many
photographs this month, and they have been added to the website.
Together with many updates.

I have added a new page
Name changes which details those Greatheads that disappeared and
reappeared with a new surname. Those that I have found anyway, maybe
there are more!! Sometimes they have been quite difficult to
uncover.

Finally I have added all the data from the
200 odd 1911 census sheets I obtained when I went to TNA. They have
answered a few questions but inevitably they have posed a few more.
Must get back to TNA for more copies!!
I have been corresponding with many people
on the fringes of the ONS, all very interesting and some quite challenging

a copy of one which I was very interested in.
Having searched for children with a mother
whose maiden name was Greathead on Ancestry.com I have added some of
this information to my personal database. If the children are alive,
only their names will appear as living
John Spurr Lamb ran out on his
wife and two children, married a lady who travelled on the same ship to
Australia and started a new family. He was my 2nd great great uncle. Out

and brought me up to date with this branch of the family.
I have started to include pages by
occupation, giving some names and details
