The Barbados branch have had pictures and
data added
I have worked on wills and attempted to
transcribe some more to gain some further knowledge on
relationships. This month's brickwall uses some of this data
One name studies include many related
names and I have added much data on the Coopers. I had help but
attempted to confirm information provided with GRO or census source data

Happy Christmas to everyone whether
you are a Greathead, were a Greathead, intend being a Greathead.
Also to all related to a Greathead no matter how far your twig is from the
main branches. Finally to all my friends and contacts old and
new. I look very forward to hearing from you in the New Year and
sharing information, photographs and maybe certificates

Brickwalls have
been revamped and created differently. I am now using them as
research prompts and am highlighting a different one each month. I
hope this may encourage others to help me

I have been adding some burial details from
the National Burial Index, but as there are 14 pages of them, and I have
only completed one. I guess it is an ongoing process
I have managed to complete the collection
of information from the Wills index at First Avenue and added data for all
those I can match up
Spelling mistakes corrected, more names
added to the Rogues gallery. Some general tidying up and lots of
lovely correspondence with many like minded people
See blog for more detailed information

At long last I believe I have sorted with
the help of Jenny Robert
Greathead's family. We now just need to sort out the parents of Jane
Greathead.
The records of my mother in law and Nana
have taken quite some time and are more fully documented
Australian newspaper articles about Alan
William Greathead, Arthur
Albert Greathead, Margaret
Hill Greathead and Helen Greethead the second wife of Keith
Charles Greethead gave more personal information.
A copy of the birth entry for Ruth
Darwin Rowley who in 1888 married Robert
Greathead helped to confirm her records
A fellow GOON requested some wills for
her mother to transcribe. I was delighted and sent her several and a
few weeks later they were returned. I sent my thanks and a small
cheque to say than you. Much information was gleaned from these
wills and is now included on the website. I must watch out incase
the offer is repeated!!

Much of my work this month has been tidying
up areas where there were uncertain sources. I have spent time
checking and have gratefully received suggestions from other
researchers. See BLOG and Update page for all changes.

Updates are early this month as I needed to
redo very hyperlink on the webpages created by me. I took the plunge
two days ago and bought the new version of the software program Second
Site. The narratives
are created using this program. If you find any links that do not
work please let me know.
I was sent copies of James
Frederick Greathead known as Leotard
Bosco's four page burial card and also a copy of the Oath of Burgess
for Robert
Greethead dated 1812
More details have been added about the
family of Alfred
Louis and Rose
Emma (née Hurd) Greathead.

I have been on holiday for the greater part
of this month and so have not managed much research.
This last week however I have been
identifying death and subsequent birth dates of many of my Greathead
ladies who have married out of the Greathead family, using the website www.findmypast.co.uk.
These will appear on the new narratives section.
Hopefully next month I will get back to
following our great name and where it leads.

Amongst the updates are many on the family
of Robert
and Florence
(née Greathead) Quinney from information and clues provided by Catherine
and her uncle Gordon, any thanks to both.
The death of my third cousin Bob
Lamb who died very recently aged 62 . Bob was the son of Norman
and Dorothy Lamb.
Lots of ideas developed from the lectures
at the "Who do
you think you are? National History show" in Olympia earlier this
month

It is good so many of you watch my blog and
respond. I love hearing from fellow Greatheads and researchers.
I have some wonderful anecdotes sent to
me and I have added them, stories about late night listening to Dad
playing his banjo in the pub
A visit to the LMA where I found the will
of James
Greated and James
Percy Beresford Greathead
Some corrections have been very kindly
sent. It is difficult to always get the true story and I appreciate
when immediate family enlighten me. Thank you.
Kim has sent me pictures of the graves
of George
and Dorothy
and their family from Greytown cemetery in New Zealand
Mary so kindly sent me pictures of Greathead
Road in Bundaberg. She is hoping to send a photograph of
Penhillvale, the original Greathead home

More mysteries uncovered !!!!
|
I have tried hard this month to sort out my
personal brickwall with my 2x great grandmother Sarah
Brown
I have a copy of her marriage certificate
to William
Greathead in 1852 where she was described as a spinster
On the birth certificate of her first son
Thomas in
1853 she describes herself as Sarah
Greathead formerly Brown
On the birth certificate of her following
sons Peter
in 1855, William
in 1858 and George
in 1861 she describes herself as Sarah
Greathead formerly Brown late Taylor
On the 1851 census Sarah
can be found with her parents Peter
and Isabella
(née Baker) Brown and is listed as single. Had she married
before this date and the family were covering up. Maybe it was a
short marriage and her husband died?
I searched long and hard for a possible
marriage of Sarah
to a Mr Taylor. I found what may be the marriage on 18 December
1847. Sarah
Brown aged 21 married James Taylor in Stanhope. Sarah's
father was Peter
Brown a labourer. The witnesses are not family members
I then searched for a possible death of
James Taylor prior to 1851. I identified four candidates 1848/Q1
Darlington 24-36, 1849/Q3 Auckland 24-12, 1850/Q1 Auckland 24-7 or 1850/Q3
Houghton le Spring 24-115 and bought their death certificates. None
of these were the correct James Taylor.
Anyone any ideas?
I have had fantastic help from Joan who
introduced me to Mary Greathead who married
John Rogers
in 1813. I have
discovered her parents were probably Joseph and
Esther
Greathead. Together
we have been finding out more about he family. Joan has a wealth of
information and I have added a few gems. What a tangled family!
Joan also identified one of my unknown
photographs number
10. She also had a copy. Now she and the owner of
the original photograph are communicating to try to find out more. I
can hardly wait to here what they find out
Details
on Edith Ada
née Greathead and Thomas
Kennedy's children
Jennifer
has sent me more details about Robert
Greathead and
Sarah Jane Ferris. We discovered that Sarah
was a widow when she married Robert.

This
month I have spent time finding and adding more source notes especially
census returns and GRO indexes. In doing this I may just have made a
chink in my personal brickwall. See blog
for details.
I
have made contact with the family of Gerald
Ernest Greathead and am hoping or some pictures.
Bracknell

December
2006 started excitedly for me with the birth
of my granddaughter Jessica
another to add to my personal database.
Then
I received a photograph of Alfred
Louis Greathead and his parents Robert
and Sarah
which has opened he questions about this family. Sarah
seems to have been born in Ireland and had a son in USA. However she
married Robert
ten years later in Bolton, England and had another son with him shortly
afterwards. Between 1901 and 1917 when Robert
died they emigrated to Canada. Louis
as he was known married in Canada and had 10 children.
More
photographs arrived of Hannah
Greathead's grandchildren Hilda,
Beatrice
and Harry
with some more information about the family
Information
about Dorothea
Greathead's parents in law and their family arrived and is
included. As usual I followed up this by searching the UK census
sheets
I
received a copy of the death notice of Margaret
(née Bilsand) that appeared in the Telegraph newspaper. I had found
her death on a website but how wonderful to "see" the actual
notice. This article gave a fantastic amount of details of her
family about which I knew very little. Sadly as they lived in
Australia it is difficult to follow this up.
These
are the main items that have changed but as usual I have checked many
sources and added GRO and census source details where not known or found
before.
I
constantly try to check source data.
I
have also updated many of the individual information pages, look around
maybe there is something of interest to YOU?
