Joan Ethel Greathead née Tunley
She was an enthusiastic girl guide during her teenage years. She married Ronald Greathead, son of Thomas Greathead and Marion Stewart, on 3 October 1942 in St Marys, Parish Church, Finchley, London, England.3
Joan was very sad after her husband died so suddenly in 1989 that she spent most weekends living with her daughter Jan. She also moved out of the flat where she had lived with Ron in Rustington to a warden assisted flat in Elmer where she was much happier. The top floor flat looked straight out to the sea so, as the doctor had told her when he died she could see the "sea horses" or waves and they looked like Ron smiling at her. This wonderful feeling is now experienced by her daughter when she sees the ripples on any water, anywhere she feels very close to both her parents.2
She died on 23 October 1992 in 24 Villa Plage, Elmer Road, Middleton on Sea, Sussex, England, aged 73.4,5 Her death was registered on 26 October 1992 by her son Timothy, who lived at 49 Moresby Avenue, Tolworth, Surrey in the Chichester Register Office. The cause of her death was Carcinomatosis and Carcinoma of breast. Her body was cremated on 29 October 1992 in Chichester, Sussex, England, and her ashes scattered at sea later that month in a similar place to where her husband's ashes had been scattered three years earlier.2 The will of Joan was proved on 10 December 1992 in London. Her effects were described as not exceeding £125,000.5
