Joshua Greathead1

     Joshua Greathead was born about 1616 in Gildersome, Yorkshire, England.1 Major Greathead's Chapel adjoining the Barn - Stank Hall Barn. Joshua became a major in Cromwell's army in 1644 and fought at the battle of Adwalton Moor. He is said to have worshipped in the chapel in Beeston, although at this time the owner was the Royalist John Hodgson. After the Civil War, Major Greathead became the collector of Hearth Taxes for the area.1


He died in 1684.1
