     Rhoda Hannah Hallifield was born in 1855 in Misson, Nottinghamshire, England.1,2 She was the daughter of William Hallifield and Sarah Marsden.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Misson, Nottinghamshire, England, she was listed as the daughter of William Hallifield.3 In the census of 2 April 1871 she was listed as the servant having domestic duties for the Stringer family.4 In the census of 3 April 1881 in Scaftworth, Nottinghamshire, England, she was listed as a mothers help to Richard Willows wife Sarah and their family. Richard was a farmer of 273 acres.5 In the census of 5 April 1891 in 19 Bath Street, Buxton, Derbyshire, England, she was listed as the sister of William Samuel Hallifield Rhoda was a boarding house keeper.6 Rhoda died on 1 August 1906 in Cape Town, South Africa, In the Northern Daily Mail dated 1 August 1906 a headline read: Sad death of a local lady. It continued .....the many friends of Miss Rhoda Hallifield, who recently sailed for New Zealand in the hope of re-establishing her health, will learn with regret that she has succumbed to the trials of the voyage. no particulars are yet to hand, but it appears from the brief telegram received that she was so prostrated with the tropical heat, after leaving Tenerife, that it was felt necessary to put her in hospital at Cape Town, where she died. in her own sphere, Miss Hallifield was a most self-sacrificing and devoted worker in every good cause, and all who knew her will feel deep regret at this sad termination to her usefulness. in connection with the new Westbourne Wesley Church in Stockton Road she was a most indefatigable worker, and on leaving West Hartlepool six weeks ago she was presented with a valuable testimonial from the friends who had learned to appreciate her disinterested labours.7,8

     William Samuel Hallifield was born in 1859 in Misson, Nottinghamshire, England.1,2 He was the son of William Hallifield and Sarah Marsden.1 In the census of 7 April 1861 in Misson, Nottinghamshire, England, he was listed as the son of William Hallifield.3 William was listed as the head of the family of on the census of 5 April 1891 in 19 Bath Street, Buxton, Derbyshire, England, William was a bookseller. His sisters Annie and Rhoda was living with him, together with Annie's step son Desmond.4

Marsden.1 Her husband ... died on before 1851.1 Ann was listed as head of household in the census of 30 March 1851 at Misson, Nottinghamshire, England, Ann was a schoolmistress. Her son-in-law William and daughter Sarah were living with her. Elizabeth Stocks aged 21 and enumerated as Ann's unmarried grandaughter working as an assistant was also staying with her.2
