     Robert Snowdon was born before 23 April 1837 in Hartlepool, Durham, England. He was the son of Robert Snowdon and Jemima Hay Markwell. He was buried on 10 September 1837 in St Hildas Church, Grave 53, Hartlepool, Durham, England, On the grave the inscription reads "Sacred to the memory of Robert Snowden Pilot was drowned in Hartlepool Bay 8 January 1838 aged 35 years and of wife Jemima, his wife who died 26 May 1861 aged 57 years also of Robert and Hannah Snowden who died in infancy, and of son William Snowden, their son who died 4 September 1865. This monument was erected as a token of their affection and esteem by their surviving children. Long will rememberence feel a pang severe and over this grave affection drop a tear."
