In the census of 31 March 1901 in High Street, Hindswell, Yorkshire, England, he was listed as the son of John Thomas Verrill.2 He married Sally Theaker. John and Sally had no children, they brought up Sally's niece Miss Kathleen Turnbull who was a school teacher.3
