In the census of 19 June 1921 in 43 Victoria, Witton Le Wear, Durham, England, he was listed as the son of William Edward Greathead.6 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register John Greathead was listed as living at 43 Victoria Cottages, Crook and Willington, Durham, England, with his parents John was a colliery hewer.7 He married Ruth Belton, daughter of J W Belton, in 1940 in Durham, England, Performed by Rev E W Ewbank of Bishop Auckland. The bride wore dress of blue morocain with accessories to tone. Carried pink carnations. Attended by sister Miss Eva Belton who wore gown of green morocain and carried pink carnations and white roses. George Greathead was best man. Reception followed at Carwood Methodist schoolroom.8,9
John died in March 1989 in Durham, England, aged 72.10

On 29 September 1939 in the National Register George Greathead was listed as living at 43 Victoria Cottages, Crook and Willington, Durham, England, with his parents George was a brick letter at brickworks.4 George was best man to his brother John at his wedding to Ruth in 1940.5 George applied to join the Durham Home Guard on 10 February 1942 and was accepted on 16 March 1942 serving in 15th Battalion in WW2. He was discharged on 23 March 1944 to join HM forces. He gave his address as 42 Victoria Cottages, Howden le Wear, Durham, England.6 He married Annie Slee in 1944 in Durham, England.7 George died in May 1987 in Durham, England, aged 62.8

Ethel May Kemp was born on 8 July 1900.1,2 She was the daughter of Thomas Kemp.3 She married Arthur William Greathead, son of Arthur William Greathead and Ada Elizabeth Evetts, on 2 May 1925 in St Andrew, Bordesley, Warwickshire, England, after the banns had been read. The ceremony was witnessed by Thomas Kemp and D E Greathead. Arthur was a tram conductor.1,4,5 On 29 September 1939 in the National Register Ethel was listed as living at 90 Reddings Lane, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, with her husband Arthur. And their sons Arnold and Brian. Arthur was a Ticket Inspector Birmingham City Transport.2 Ethel died on 12 September 1980 in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, aged 80.1,6
